So you think that I'm actually some sort of closet millionaire?

I wish.

What? Between the way you talked about your parents visiting France, and being an Oxford scholar, I would naturally picture you in my mind as the type with parents who own a Bently Continental, you drive a Aston-Martin, you go spend a few days at the 200-year-old stone manor in the country whenever you feel like it.... You know the type. Me and my crazy imagination......

I've always had the impression that it was relatively cheap to travel within Europe. Sadly, since I haven't travelled within Europe since I was eleven or so, I could be wrong...

Well, a Chunnel ticket could probably get you anywhere in France that you want.

That depends on if you choose to enjoy it or not.

I don't believe that it's possible to enjoy all of life. But anyway, let's leave this conversation as dead as the Thread™.

Lacey, you have to enjoy something about life? I wake up every morning and enjoy a stiff cup of coffee. I know you enjoy killing the thread but just chill out and enjoy something else. Leave the thread to us we will take good care of it.

I agree.
There are lots of aspects of life that I enjoy. Mostly the little things like a hug from my daughter, a great conversation with a friend or Christer's company. There are also things that aren't possible to enjoy. The illness of a child, the death of relatives/friends etc.
I do not try to push back those un-enjoyable aspects of life though. They are like uninvited people who is banging at my door. If I keep them outside (of me) and avoid thinking about them, then they'll start making noise and ruin my day. If I welcome them inside and take a good look at them I don't have to fear them, just endure them.
The trick is to catch the moments that are enjoyable. I've also noticed that if I've got something to look forward to (seeing a friend at the pub, going away for the weekend, a great book or game, even a TV show that I enjoy) life is very enjoyable!

OK with these words of (my) wisdom the Thread can peacefully pass away.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright-coloured kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up in strings, these are a few of my favourite things...

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

When the dog bites,
when the bee stings,
when I'm feeling sad.
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

To clarify: I've never said that life is one long exercise in misery (though it may sometimes feel like that). Clearly, there's a lot about life to enjoy.

All I meant to say was that anybody who goes through life thinking that they can be happy non-stop is living in a fantasy. Because things do go wrong.
