Because you make desserts out of eagles?

We don't all hate you. We just love the thread more than you.

I'm still posting here. Some of us have jobs to go to though so I can't sit here all day posting. Well done on keeping the post count up though.

There is no school for me. I return to university at the end of the month, though.

It may be over in America, but over here school specifically refers to the years prior to sixth form/college, which in turn are the two years before university.

ok, I not trying to be an ass but, you’re telling me over there after sixth form it's like High School? correct?

Here you have first grade - sixth grade then middle school seventh and eighth grade, finally on to High School which is ninth (freshman), tenth (sophomore), eleventh (junior) and then twelfth (senior). Then once you graduate you go to college.

We have 11 years of compulsory education.

Our primary school is similar to your elementary school, covering years 1-6.

It differs after that however:
We go to secondary school for years 7-11 and complete secondary education at age 16, whereas you graduate high school at 18.

After that there is the option of going to sixth form/college for 2 years to take A-Levels.

Once A-Levels are completed people can go to university, if they so wish.

A- Levels are like your core classes (language, math- stuff that is the basics for your degree)? Then on to University which is where you take classes and major in what your degree will be in? I hope I got all of that right. Thanks Jat

For A-Levels people choose generally 3 or 4 subjects to study during the two years.

At university people study only one subject for their degree. Their choice of subjects is likely to be limited by which A-Levels they chose earlier.

It's not Rob's fault you Americans can't tell the difference between going to university and going to school.

The latter is state-enforced education which you have to do by law (OK not so much for A levels I suppose but still heavily promoted at that stage)

The former is a way of being a lazy bum that can't get a real job without you actually being called a lazy bum that can't get a real job.

Of course, I'm speaking as someone who did two years of "being a lazy bum who can't get a real job" in Civil Engineering. Then I got a real job and ended up doing much more studying than I did at university AND having to fit it around my real job. (That would be the one Giligan doesn't believe in apparently)

I tell you, it's a good thing you're cute as well as American.

^ What they said. So yeah, I'm a couple of years away from the world of work being subjected to me. Or I could do a Masters...

The trouble with you brits is that you've generalised Americans into your idea of bumbling fats clods, which about half of the Americans are not. Only Southerners are bumbling-obese-tabacco-chewing-morons. (with the exception of Bulldog of course)
