I did get the joke instantly. But in FGM's defense I think your next post (#841) could have given the impression that you were speaking bitterly, not jokingly (especially if somebody have simply forgotten the Apollonic post).

He didn't say that.

I did indeed think she was speaking bitterly, and having been the one who counted posts, I wanted to be sure that I hadn't slighted anyone.

SJH post #822
"This thread simply MUST die, and I think it's proved it really never, ever will. Killed by its own ambition!

Regardless, for sheer desperation and commitment to the cause, (which makes me feel kind of honoured) the winner of FGM's poll elsewhere in the forum gets a drawing all their own which I'll do to their brief next week sometime.

Thanks, folks! You know how to make an artist feel special!"

I've interpreted it the same way as Karmillo.

For future reference, one can access a list of who posted how many messages by clicking number of replies next to the thread's name.

This thread is being put to bed, officially. I can only draw SO much for so many people - I'm a professional artist who gets paid for my work and think that it's enough that I'm now offering 3 sketches just for kicks!

This thread has proved now it'll never die unless it's forgotten, which doesn't look like it'll be soon. The reason I'm closing this competition in this thread is that I start work again in two weeks and it'll be very, very difficult for me to concentrate on even my own stuff as storyboarding is extremely intensive.

I'm sorry that some feel that it has now turned into a "popularity contest", but it really isn't - as it's based on who YOU think deserves it more based on your own criteria and THIS thread. Those are the only rules. I've been busy to'ing and fro'ing today so I haven't had enough time to sit down and clear my head to say so properly, but this is how it's going to have to be done.

This competition started out in fun, and it's sad that some have decided to take it down a road which is ending in bitterness. It saddens me as it's a genuine gesture on my part based on my affection for this forum and all it has offered me. Someone once said this forum isn't a democracy, well, this competion isn't either - but I'm trying to make it more so. I'm trying to be as fair as I can as things move faster than I can manage and I apologise to those who feel it isn't going down the right track, but it's all I can do.

It's been great seeing this thread get bigger, and it's made my ego swell immeasurably. Certainly, that wasn't anything to do with its intent! I didn't realise people would be so into it! So thanks for that, mainly as I've been through a bad time with my work recently (long story) and, to everyone - forum musn't die. You make it what it is and this thread is a shining example to your wit, imagination and fun.

Thanks!

SJH

Ooh, well, I thought particularily the next post would make it clear I don't care... to... win... Okay, I'm confused. But obviously there was a misunderstanding here (on both sides) - for whatever reason - and I apologise for my involvement.

Did I ever mention that Goethe was a cruel and evil man? If you don't believe me, just look at the length of "Faust" (and the even greater length of the second book, "Faust II"). And those little books have *tiny* writing!

But... but... Nietzsche said he was cool. Sorrows of Young Werther wasn't too bad either... my copy had a painting by Caspar David Friedrich on the cover.

Wagner more so. In both a musical and a personal sense.
