A joke of that nature was so painfully obvious that I was hoping nobody would actually bother to make it.

It was better in Victorian days, they'd send a small boy up the chimney.

And then he'd fly around on stair-shaped clouds, talk to an umbrella, jump inside a street painting and walk around Mr Bank's house, doffing his cap mockingly as he left.
Those were the days. |

Did we suddenly go from "Mary Poppins" to "Coronation Street"?

You've seen Coronation Street before? I never thought our random soaps made it to other countries. Do you get Eastenders too? If you do then all Americans who've seen it must think we're all clinically depressed and go around shagging our sisters and killing ourselves.

Never seen it. Is it about a monk that goes around solving mysteries in a monastery, like who was it who farted during a service?

Nobody, Nobody, beats Jessica Fletcher.
When it comes to television sleuthing, Murder, She Wrote is king!

I can't remember who I had this conversation with, it might have been on here even, but if that show was real then Jessica Fletcher would surely be the most jinxed woman on Earth? Everywhere she goes people are getting bumped off! If you're a cop surely it's gotta look a bit dodgy that this same woman was present at about 100 different murders in such a short space of time. Whenever people saw her coming they'd pack their bags and fuck off, for fear of being stabbed or shot.

Robert, I would have thought you would have gone more for a proper British detective like Ms. Marple or Sherlock Holmes, not some poofty git whose moustache always looks like it's really, really excited.

What about Bergerac?
Or his later incarnation Inspector Barnaby?
