Full speed ahead, Mister Cohen!

Up, up, up, your premium
Up, up, up, your premium

Scribble away...
(and balance the books)

Scribble away...
(but balance the books)

It's fun to charter an accountant
And sail the wide accountancy
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy
It can be manly in insurance
We'll up your premium semi-annually
It's all tax-deductible
We're fairly incorruptible
We're sailing on the wide accountancy!

Oh this is fun, Mister Cohen.
Fetch me another exotic charoot!

To port!
Bring a port to sherry! And a medium lie sherry to port!

Balance the books!

(fade out)

Was that Flanders and Swann Jazzy? Good stuff!

Accountancy is fascinating because you spend all day looking at bank statements. They've got all these numbers on them and numbers are great. Some of them have commas in and some don't depending on how big they are. They all have two places after the decimal point because that's the way that money works. The ones on the left are spending money and the ones on the right are getting money. It's wonderful how the bank balance figure goes up and down as money goes in and out. Sometimes people don't write down all of the money that's come in and out of their bank account in their cash books. Then you get to have even more fun looking at those exciting bank statements trying to find the things they forgot to write down.

Is everyone fascinated ( ) enough yet or do I need to continue?

That's not accountancy. I get the clerks to do that stuff.

Accountancy is preparing the monthly Vat return and the year end set of accounts.

So nobody post or I'll start talking about Balance Sheets and tax.

It's Monty Python! It's the beginning sequence of "The Meaning of Life" (at least it was supposed to be, but it got so long that it got turned into the Short Feature Film at the beginning of the movie).

That short is gold. If you haven't (and I'd be surprised if you haven't), listen to the director's commentary. It's interesting to see how differently Gilliam was working from the rest at the time.

I was saving all the good stuff for later. Didn't want to peak too soon.

Shall I talk about netting off the put and call contracts in currency futures now?

Why I'm So Great
A speech by Robert Lacey

Just because. Think about it for a second. It's obvious, isn't it? I simply am one of the greatest beings to ever walk the planet.

And one of the most modest.

So there. Proved. Case closed.

The fact that someone has chosen to steal huge swathes of one of my speaches merely proves my point .
