I've always wanted to kill this Thread™.

Sometimes we can't have what we want.

(Though that's a bad example, because I am destined to be the Thread™-killer.)

The Thread (TM) is Dead

Tony Martin was the couturier to all the big stars. His skill with fabric and a needle gave him his nickname, "The Thread". Now "The Thread" (Tony Martin) is dead and Inspector Lacey is firmly in the frame. For years he'd been telling people that he would kill The Thread one day and his fingerprints are all over the murder weapon. With his erstwhile colleagues hunting him down, he's running out of places to turn. Did he really kill The Thread and, if not, can he prove it before they bring him in? A white-knuckle ride of a thriller leads to a shocking conclusion that will change everything you thought you knew.

Full of impassioned arguments, of posting from the heart
And for this stimulation all will be thankful to me
On come on everybody it won’t work if you agree

This is the sequel to Loose Threadâ„¢, in which Mr Martin escapes from his wrongful imprisonment for killing an old lady with a knitting needle, and eventually redeems himself in the eyes of the public. Right?

That was Inspector Lacey's first case, if I recall correctly.

The sky above the Thread was the colour of television, tuned to a dead channel.
