I didn't think we got round to installing the talking version of the forums yet. Most people have to settle for reading them.

So you want to have a cat that could be dead or alive and a dog you'd be constantly uncertain about.

And for this stimulation all will be thankful to me
On come on everybody it won’t work if you agree

You know, Schrödinger didn't really name a cat after himself.

Since it underclocks the processor when on battery power by default, I have indeed been able to use it for several hours without a problem, though it makes games like Morrowind a bit jerky. For reference, it's a 6-cell battery, and with it underclocking itself I was able to get a good six or so hours of use even though I spent the entire time doing what I would describe as heavy use of the computer (downloading and installing stuff, copying stuff over from an external hard drive, and testing Morrowind).

As for actually playing Morrowind, I've just copied over my old saved games, since I never finished the game when I played it on my desktop. I find the keyboard okay, though the Eee PC's trackpad isn't particularly good for first-person 3D stuff. Still, that's what my portable mouse is for. Incidentally, I notice that I last saved a game in 2006. I sense that I'm going to have to spend a good half hour trawling through my in-game journal just to have some semblance of what's going on. But hey, if I get lost, at least I'll be able to discover stuff again!

Incidentally, what settings are you using for the game? I downloaded some tools that reduced the texture sizes and audio quality in order to increase performance, and I find it perfectly playable now, but if you have any further tips they'd be appreciated.
I'm running it at 640x480 with all the shadows turned off. I do find its a bit jerky so I'll have a look for those tools. My netbook is an aspire one, with a 3 cell battery which lasts for 2 hours if I'm lucky (I think it may be less than that as I didn't use it for a couple of weeks and forgot that I left in standby doh I seriously thought I killed the battery for a while, took me ages to revive it) I'm afraid I haven't got any further tips, I'm still experimenting with games to put on there, any recommendations would be appreciated Midtownmadness 1+2 run pretty sweet on there, and although I havent yet I want to put a few classic adventure game titles on there, like myst and TLJ just for the hell of it.

I know what you mean about morrowind, I got quite far and then gave up when I got thrown in jail, but I want to get back into it again, it just takes so much time, and somebodies lent me oblivion, which I'm pretty damn sure won't go on a netbook

You should name your dangerous watchdog "Jesus", that way you can always claim that Jesus is watching you.

That article contains links to the Morrowind stuff. In true C&VG style, they've just copied and pasted from a magazine (without even fixing the typo ), but it has a few useful pointers for various things.

Well, when he's in my backyard, I can observe either where he is or how fast he's running back and forth, but not both.
