This made me sad today. All that stuff we were talking about regarding people in the military being heroes who made sacrifices in the name of freedom? Bullshit. I'm utterly disgusted.

@Squinky: That's horrifying. Give some people an opportunity to do shit like that and an excuse to do it, and it'll happen. That's definitely enough to disillusion one.

If all this pans out to be true I expect all the people involved though to be tried in a military court, have them publicly sentenced (And preferably flogged to within inches of their lives) and treated for the rest of their lives as sexual offenders. That means everyone knowingly involved. |

You know what's rididculous? The fact that not closing Guantanamo is justified by a research or whatever that states that one out of seven released prisoners have joined terrorist forces (again).
It's quite interesting (and characteristic) that they only see the fact that they've released some terrorists as a justification, instead the fact that about six out of seven prisoners seem to be innocent. Which would be about the worst human rights violation anywhere else... I was unable to attend (being very sick) this seminar or lecture or whatever a few weeks back where a lawyer for the Guantanamo prisoners spoke about his work, amongst other things (concerning Guantanamo), and as well as describing his really fascinating job in his own words: "James Bond -like job" (honestly, he tracks down the people who the prisoners say that can confirm their stories), they also told some stories about people who, for example, had moved into France from Iraq, had been living a normal with a family (I think a wife and a son) and then suddenly, without any reason a couple years later were arrested by Americans and taken into Guantanamo. And I'm not even going into the countless people who have been just abducted by Iraqis for ransom money, claiming them to be terrorists. And still, even though so many have already been proven innocent by the court of justice, they still haven't been released, even after years since the verdict that proved them innocent... But hey, there's a couple terrorists in Guantanamo that might rejoin terrorist cells if they happen to get free. No worries then (about human rights or law or anything, it's not like western countries are based on law or anything, right?)... Last edited by UPtimist; 05-29-2009 at 12:57 AM. |

Mind you, this doesn't just go for the US military, because rape culture in war has been around for a long time. However, this doesn't mean it ought to continue.
