Tell me about it. I've always been on dialup.
At the risk of sounding like Hammy, I have a question for you guys: (and I ask this seriously; it's not one of my elaborate practical jokes) what do you do when you really, really want to date someone, but that someone already has a boyfriend? Specifically, what do you do when you're pretty sure there's a good chance that that someone would date you if she knew you wanted to date her, but she doesn't because there's no way to tell her you want to date her without it looking like you're trying to get her to break up with her current boyfriend? Now, I realize asking you guys for dating advice is a bit like asking an accountant about ancient Egypt, or a garbageman about abstract physics, but I'll take any advice I can get.

Giligan, I would just be there for her. If she does end up breaking up with him, you'll be there, but give her space. Just be there for her, and she'll notice. If not, don't tell her, because I know I'd feel guilty. You don't really want to ruin things for her, just be there for her.

That's what I'm doing now, but the waiting is frustrating.

Hey Gil, this sounds bad but if you want to date this girl you really need to be up front and honest about your intentions. I told Mrs.R that she should leave her jerk boyfriend and I would be there for her right in front of him.
If you do not tell her your feelings and try to pry into her heart it feels like dishonesty to me. |

Well, it's not that I want to pry into her heart. My plan right now is to be there for her, and if she wants to date me, then she'll have to make the next move. I just don't want to create an awkward situation. Anyway, trying to get them to break up seems more dishonest than not telling her how I fell.
I thought of asking another friend if he could find a roundabout way of letting her know I'd like to date her. Thoughts?

Hey Giligan. Okay, I think you should let her know how you feel, that you may wat to be with her, but don't pressure her into having to do anything. Just let her know, so she'll at least know. And if she doesn't feel pressured, she'll think about it and choose. Does her boyfriend treat her badly?

No, I don't think so. I know her mom doesn't like the boyfriend, but I don't know why.
I don't know. I'll think about it. Maybe she's genuinely happy with how things are now and doesn't have any interest in me - everything I've experienced says otherwise, but if that's the case, I'll make a complete and utter mess of things by telling her. It's a risk.

You should only be there for her if you genuinely enjoy her company as a friend, and not just because you're waiting for her to come around and date you.

Good. Then enjoy her company for what it is. If you wind up dating, then great, and if not, you still have a beautiful friendship.
(And I say this as someone who's in love with a guy who's happily married.)

Of course, I'm not above being a little dishonest. I haven't exactly gotten this far in life without having a hidden agenda or two.
And yes, we know how much you love Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Spoiler:

My agenda is hidden under Ahmadinejad's bed. Anyone want to go get it for me?
