Thanks for the vote of confidence Seebaruk! Unfortunately, that won't be for a while yet.

I'm fine, thanks.
I'd ask how you were, but I don't want you to respond. |

Oh, you don't need to ask! I'm still riding my Mac-buying high from last night.

I've owned over a hundred used Macs, from 1988 Mac IIs and SEs all the way up to a 2003 iBook, and except for the occasional worn-out hard drive or dead PRAM battery(1), all but one(2) of them have worked fine. As someone who values durability over fashion and reliability over speed, Macs are the only computers that appeal to me. Quote:
(1) Some Macs built during the 90s will stop giving a video signal when their PRAM battery dies, causing people think there is something horribly wrong with these machines. They usually then just throw them away, and I snag them gratis. One $7-$15 battery later, the machine is running fine and I get to indulge my voyeuristic tendencies. I have gotten to read some of the worst short stories ever committed to the printed page because of this little glitch, as well as more than a few electronic diaries. (2) Somebody gave me a completely disassembled IIsi in a box once. I reassembled it, and found that two of the connections to the SCSI controller were broken. If I were any good at soldering teeny-tiny connections on a motherboard, it would have worked fine as well.

OK. Fine. Macs. I know a load of people at university who swear by them.
Not literally, of course. That would be rude. |

Yes, you swear by them rather than at them because you're sitting at a Windows PC .

And then they get a Mac and realise that there's nothing they can do on them by design rather than by error .
