Wow, I never realised that historians could only be trusted if they were around at the time. Damn! So everything I've learnt about the Romans is entirely false, while the writings of Winston Churchill are as historically accurate as they come. And, you know that Soviet-created history. That's actually the truth. Thanks for enlightening me!

I never said that the union was popular, but it was used by a lot of Scottish people to get ahead. Take the British Empire, for example. Guess which part of Britain provided a disproportionately large group of governers and people to man outposts....

Hint: not the English, Welsh or Irish.

No wait, that' Italy... Oh right, Canadians.

Canada! (only those with knowledge of the Finnish humour will understand that...)

Of course.

Never trust Historians. *checks who pays wages*

Historians are great people and are never wrong.

But never read anything without questioning it's facts. Historical accounts are not infallible.

Oh, I'm well aware of the need to check information. I'd be failing at university if I simply accepted everything I was told blindly . As it happens, though, Colley's book appears to have been critically praised. So, without having actually checked her sources myself, I'm going to take it on faith for now that she might just be right .

Probably, in some respects. But almost certainly not in many others.

What do you mean? Are you trying to tell me that The Patriot wasn't 100% historically accurate and all British officers weren't evil and sadistic?

Well, I suspect that a lot of Christians would be prepared to argue that The Passion of the Christ was accurate-ish.

But, yes, I agree.

Definately, the CGI blood splatters flying through the screen everywhere were very life-like

It would have to be based on actual history first.

Some people hate the English. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to get colonized by. We're ruled by effete a*******. It's a *** state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and all the fresh air in the world won't make any f***ing difference!
