Everyone in the "What do you look like" thread is throwing around the word "flattery". Yet the definition of that word, if I recall correctly, is "insincere praise". So everyone who has recieved a positive comment in that thread has recieved insincere praise, then?

Only sometimes. Another correct usage of the word is "excessive praise", which really just means we're all being too sincere.
