Normally, I take such matters subjectively, but where the wholesale objectification of women is concerned, the answer is yes.

And millions of people also find Little Britain funny, so millions of people can clearly be wrong.

Well, Little Britain can be funny, but it stops being so when one realises that they use exactly the same jokes in each and every episode.
And don't be unhappy, Miss Hara7. The Pythons wouldn't approve. |

Of course, if you're thinking about hip-hop culture, then you've got to be absolutely thick-headed not to see misogyny in the way that women are dressed, and in the way that men are expected to treat them. (Arguably, it's no worse than mainstream culture in general, but that's still not an excuse.)

The question of the music is a matter of taste. Hip-hop fans like the music that most hip-hop music is set to; of course, I realize that most fans, like myself, have no background in making music or understanding the mechanics of it, so I guess I have no argument against someone saying I'm ignorant to like the music. But I see far less musical creativity in pop and rock songs than I do in hip-hop.
As far as the objectification of women in hip-hop culture goes, I know there's a lot of people who are against it. I understand what aspects of it you and other opponents are referring to, but nobody's making the women be involved in hip-hop culture. That's their own choice. And who cares? There's as many female hip-hop fans as there are male fans; they have no problem with it. (Of course, in all this, I'm referring to mainstream hip-hop.) My advice to you, if you're offended by hip-hop culture, is to ignore it. But please don't insult the intelligence of a whole demographic of music fans by judging them as sex-craving idiots who have no respect for women. That said, I'm not at all for the objectification of women; I realize that it does happen in hip-hop culture, but as you said, it happens anywhere. I just happen to like hip-hop, and it's a package deal. With the music comes the ugly aspects. In fact, I point you to the recent example of the physics student (who is female) who rapped about the LHC. That was all in good fun. Aaaaannnnwaaayyyy... With all due respect, that's not a valid argument, tsa. Hip-hop emerged in New York City in the 70's, and it had spread throughout the world by the 90's. You can't, in all honestly, dismiss all hip-hop fans as angsty teenagers. Yes, the hip-hop fanbase has a major youth presence, as does any genre of music, but that's not the average hip-hop fan.
Ultimately, this is Adventure Gamers, and because of the type of person who would vist this site, I'm probably the only hip-hop fan on here. It's not worth arguing with you guys over, tsa and Squinky. Actually, seeing as how one of you is in Canada and the other is in the Netherlands, I'm not at all suprised at the image you hold of hip-hop, because that's probably the attitude of most people in each of your countries towards hip-hop. It has a much larger presence in the US, particularly in the eastern portion. |

Fair enough. You're free to like what you like, and I'll just feel free not to understand it.
What do you think of blues, soul, and funk, Giligan? Just out of curiosity.

There's underground hip-hop too, which tends to be free of the bastardiness!

Hmmm... what can we deduce from the fact that this underground hip-hop isn't mainstream, while much friendlier than mainstream hiphop? I don't dare speculate...
