What was the first book to open with the words "Once upon a time...?"

Google's translation service apologises for not being able to translate Persian at this time (they did recognise the language, though), but I'm assuming the two quotes above are saying the same thing?
Wikipedia claims that the OED says that it's been in use since at least 1380. They don't mention where it originated, but with something that old it's probably impossible to answer that question. Your question is more specific, so there might be some kind of answer to get. I'll get back to you if I find something.

Facebook is becoming the bane of my existence. I just received a message from a man who writes for the gay publication "Attitude", and who wishes to interview me for an article he is doing on young gay Conservatives. Now this really isn't a good idea, because my entire politics boil down to the fact that I hate the poor, and would rather they were sent to the workhouse and fed gruel, than me being taxed through the nose so that they can have the luxury of living for free in a state owned house, not working and being paid by the government to have 15 children, and spend all day every day eating nothing but deep fried garbage until they get so obese that I have to pay for their stomachs to be stapled. Now I'm a lovely person, as I'm sure you all can attest to, but it's very difficult to express those views delicately, no matter how articulate one is, especially when one is devoid of all tact. I don't trust reporters either, especially given the liberal media, if I expressed the belief in restricting immigration, I'm sure it would be twisted into "angry gay Nazi says Polish immigrants should be shot for invading his lebensraum!" I'm afraid it's best that someone else tackle the taboo that is being gay and right-wing, lest I not only have myself vilified, but set back any progress on the matter by several decades, lol.

It's a transliteration of "Die, Thread™" into the Arabic alphabet, though it turned out more as "Die, Teh-red™" instead.
