Cool. The closest I've been to one is having a music CD on my shelf with two theremin players (Pamelia Kurstin and Joe Wooten) as guest artists. How intuitive or strange are they to play?

That would be a virtual theremin I'm afraid (response to the Good Vibrations talk) I have seen Bill Bailey play one live though and it looked fairly intuitive. Essentially the distance of your hand from the central rod controls the pitch of the note. It's all done using the principle of heterodyning oscillators.
