My dearest Melaniesixtyeight, I was born in the winter of 1985, to a pair of eccentric immigrant parents in the vast expanses of Saskatchewan. As a child, I was extremely precocious and constantly made fun of as a result. At the age of ten, I decided that I wanted to make video games. At the age of twenty, I became Supreme Ruler of the Universe. Sadly, people are still having to adjust to this fact. It breaks my heart. Of course, you probably don't care about a word of any of this, and probably shouldn't. The point is, darling, that I promise from the bottom of my heart to completely neglect and occasionally make a complete fool out of you. (That is, until one of us dies (most likely you), or until I get tired of bothering you and decide to find a new forum spouse.) I hope that you find as much joy from this arrangement as I undoubtedly will, but if you don't, then that's okay, because I probably won't even care all that much. I wish I could stand here and chat with you some more, but I really, really want to have the cake already. With regurgitated sentimentality, Squinky "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is my personal favourite. Though maybe I should play that at the wedding...

Dear Squinky,
While this is a marriage of convenience, don't ever doubt my sincere admiration for you and your rebellious game making ways. But I have been dying slowly.. a little piece of me goes every time I read this thread so you can soon forsake me for someone new. I have a fondness for The Thread" though, as it's where we met, announced our engagement and planned the wedding. Here's to our life together! |

Okay, after reading that, I'm willing to make an exception, and go to the Squinky/Melsie wedding.

The most common request for me to play is the same for both occasions: Gotländsk Sommarnatt (Gotlandic Summer Night). I think I've played Amazing Grace on both, too.

No, no. This is just the rehearsal dinner.

I've never understood the whole rehearsal dinner thing. What exactly do you need to rehearse about a dinner, and surely doing it twice makes the event less special?

Am I right in guessing that's something typically American?

I believe so. I've never heard of anyone doing it over here, at least.

Do we eat at the rehearsal dinner, or just get the shove-fork-in-mouth thing down pat?

Doing fine thank you.

Then there was a huge dinner with not all, but a lot of the wedding guests. It was very formal and since I was not prepared for it, I had never heard of such a thing as rehearsal dinner before, I had to borrow a nice dress from the bride to be (I was staying with their family.). I had only brought one fancy dress with me and I couldn't very well use it on both rehearsal dinner and the wedding. Americans seem to put an awful lot of money on their weddings. At least this family did.

I think it's because Americans are very appearance orientated. In order to show everyone how successful they are, they have to put on an elaborate and lavish affair. Such things as restraint and moderation (and often taste) elude them.

Money is bling. Bling is good, and the more of it you wear, the better. So yes, we're very appearance-orientated.
Damn, where's my silver necklaces?!?
