To be honest, it's not really "scary." But it fits in the realm of horror and it's good. That constitutes it as a good movie for this list to me. Better than naming Stir of Echoes, at least. (Although I did scream like a little girl during one scene.)

I like both movies, but they're certainly quite different considering that they share the same title.

Here's Bravo's list of the scariest movies. I'm watching it right now.

100. 28 Days Later

Unfortunatly, they left out the scariest movie of all time. Where the hell is IT? Otherwise, pretty good list. I can live without a few of the movies on the list (Signs), and some are too high up (Hellraiser) and too low (Suspiria), but a nice one all the same.

Like "Salem's Lot", "It" isn't technically a movie. It was originally broadcast as a mini-series, then later released in movie form.

I don't care. It's got Tim Curry. What more do you want?

It's not what I want, it's what Bravo wants, which is apparently only movies which received a genuine theatrical release.
Personally, I agree with you. Any film that exposes clowns for the vile, evil things they are counts as scary in my book.

It's not a clown. It's It. But ya'll knew that. I always hated clowns, but after watching It, I feared them.

So The Ring made it, but not the original Japanese version? There's something wrong about that.

I'm always confused by the likes of Dawn of the Dead, Reanimator, etc. in these polls too. Great films, but scary?

@Scott: Never heard of the first one. Might explain why someone lists the title here, though. I was referring to latter.

I'm watching it as I type this. I always think it's set in the Pacific Northwest (Washington or Oregon), but it's actually set in Maine which is on the opposite side of the US. It's worth renting because it has a message that the Green Party would absolutely love, and the science in it is fairly accurate. Technically, it's title is "Prophecy", not "The Prophecy".

Ah. Viggo Mortensen ROCKS as Lucifer! "All those times at night when you were saying your prayers, and you were afraid I was under your bed...I was!"
Awesome, awesome, awesome! I hoped for a sequel, but none so far.

Yeah he does rock, originally I watched Prophecy because of Viggo. I just had to see his performance as the Devil himself.

Now, where's that drooling smiley when you need it? Oh, right, here: He'll always be Lucifer to me, no matter how many LOTR movies they make

There are sequels, though - but I've never seen them, and I think they're without Lucifer (or at least, without Viggo as Lucifer) if I recall correctly. And if I recall correctly, there's two sequels. But I suppose it's best asking IMDB rather than me. Or, well, forget I said that, of COURSE I know for sure, I'm a wandering encyclopedia, and I didn't just check on IMDB myself, honest!

There's The Prophecy II, without Lucifer. And there is The Prophecy 3 which is... also without any hint of a Lucifer whatsoever.

Okay, boring.

I watched The Shining last night. The only time I got creeped out is when Wendy is running through the hotel, and in one of the rooms she sees this guy in a bear suit about to give head to some guy in a tuxedo just staring at her. That was freaky.

Dreadful film.

Rather watch "The Omen"

That's sorta like saying Alien can't be scary because it's a dude in a suit. I don't think Alien is scary because it's not really a believable scenario. Jaws is scary because something like that can and does happen to many people every day. Now, I'm not saying certain scary movies will have the same effect on everyone, but generally the secret to scaring people is to tap into something that could harm them in their everyday life. That's why Psycho and Jaws are frightening to me. Not necessarily as I'm watching, but after...and that's true horror. Sometimes in the shower I'll get this feeling that someone could come right up and kill me while I'm fairly helpless in there, and when I'm in the ocean I worry about what is lurking below me, staring hungrily at my legs. Those movies are part of the reason why...
