Names for kids
If you had kids, what would you name them? What wouldn't you name them?

For boys, I tend towards more conservative Biblical names such as Michael or Daniel, or conservative non-Biblical names like Kenneth or Robert.
For girls, I tend towards more esoteric names like Rain or Fern. Of course naming a child is a three-party debate between the mother, the father, and the child, and often names that have been locked in for months are discarded once the child makes his or her appearance and doesn't look at all like the name you and your spouse have chosen. I won't be having kids but the parallel universe Melanie would name her kids:
Zoe for a girl and Ian for a boy. They wouldn't be named: Any male name rigged for a girl. Any female name with a 'y' instead of an 'i.' And I definitely wouldn't name her Zubaida Eulalia (go to http://www.babynames.com and try the random renamer-that's what they renamed me. ) Boys - I can't think of a bad boy name. |

For the most part, I want to stay away from the common names around today, like John or Rob. Also anything that could be turned into an insult, like Deloras or Willie.
I like the name Ridley. I think I've heard of a guy and a girl with the name, so it's kind of asexual. Leo is my dad's middle name, so I might give that to a son. I also like Shawn, even if it is more common. For a girl, I like Victoria (latin for victory). |

I have no idea what names I would give to my children, if I ever had any.
I have never even really thought about this.

I like Keahi, if it's a boy. It's Hawaiian, and it means fire.
After I graduate I want to work overseas, so if I have my child overseas, I would like to give him/her a name from the culture that s/he was born in. I guess that means I need to live in Hawaii. |

I met a girl named Berry the other week. I thought that was an ace name. I can't think of any boy names atm... without steering the thread into comedy.

Easy. I haven't decided for my daughter, but I know I want to name my first son Iskandar (Alexander).

I'm serious. For a while it was a desirable masculine name with Filipinos. Can you imagine parents naming their son that? The pressure it would put on him? What if he turns out anything but strikingly handsome? And even if he were handsome, imagine how pompous it would make him seem. I've seen some young men with the name Adonis, and believe me, it's a f#&king cruel joke played unto them.

Wow, Iskander. Nice name, Mira.
I will give my theoretical children multi-syllabic, powerful names, with which they may once rule the world with dignity. I've only got one name for a boy set, but I will not disclose it for fear of dirty theft.

Hmm, tough one.
m: Mictian (from the Aztec MICTLANTECUHTLI) Oh, and: Mine, you can't have it. f: Elizabeth (so she could tell everyone 'Liz' has nothing to do with her name but perhaps with an affinity to reptiles) Runner-up: m: Ingvar (plus it sounds suspiciously like Ingwer which is german for...) f: Ginger No way: m: Norman (death to the mother of his Najesty, Norman Fisher-Jones! The sheer cruelty of the naming process! OFF WITH HER HEAD! ) f: Meike (...notice a certain bias there? )

By the way, any french person who name their children Brandon or Brenda because of Beverly Hills ought to be shot. And there are thousands of people in this case...
