Kazaa speed?
I'm using Kazaa lite and it says now my participation level is 1000. However things seem to be in the snail mood: most of the time the download rate is around 0.5kb/s (yes, I mean HALF a kilobyte per second). In cases when the file is shared by about 10 users, the speed may reach 2kb/s. I've heard people getting 20kb/s, how is that done?
By the way I've said goodbye to the dial-up stuff a long time ago (that means 1.5 months). I'm here in Singapore with this speedy speedy net, and normally on good servers my downloads can be 1.5 mb/s. What's wrong with Kazaa? Doesn't it want to conform? |

Actually I'm not after music only (if you mean mp3 ) I'm looking for music clips.
Heh, and I got King's Quest 3-4, Indiana Jones & Fate of Atlantis, Indy & last Crusade from Kazaa. Great!! |

rare groove

Heh. I've been trying hard to download more or less rare funk through Kazaa, but it's really, really hard. So, now I decided to try Soulseek, and in the 15 minutes I've been using it, I've found much more than on Kazaa for the last couple of weeks. Great!

Hypocritical as this is going to sound, we don't like associating ourselves with (abandon)warez

Maybe we can edit his post
Regarding the subject, there are several tools included (at least in lite), which will increase the speed. Just thought I should mention it, oh, and another tips. Instead of doing "find more sources" on the top, to it on all the sub users

I find that it depends on what you download. When I'm downloading an old 70s song that's barely heard of anymore, I get a slow download speed. When I'm downloading something that's more in-demand, invariably, I get better speeds.
I think it depends on the number of users having said file, and when that is high, the probability that you are sharing with someone who has a good connection is high. |

You should go in preferences and tell the program what connection speed you have.. that may help, I think. Other than that, YES, it can be horribly slow. But sometimes when you find a good guy to download from you can get MAD speeds! I usually only download stuff if it has 2 users or more.

In Kazaa download speed depends not only on your connection, but also on type of connection of those from whom you download. So check your options, make sure Kazaa 'knows' you changed connection and if you have a choise, choose a file that several people are shearing. You can also try to right-click on a file that is downloading slowly and choose 'find more sources for download' option.

Or people on T1 or T3 connections. Gotta love those guys! (Okay, maybe that's a bit too much...)

Speaking of Kazaa... what do you guys think of all the people getting sued for having music available for download, including kids?
BTW Kazaa Lite will always show a 1000 participation level, but I don't think it necessarily impacts your download speeds, etc the same as it would with Kazaa. Apologies if you already got an answer to that question. |

The points doesn't decide your download speed, just if you get to connect to a user before someone else if you connect at the same time. This goes for both versions.
