Babies make people do that, too. It's weird watching it.

At least you don't genuflect.

I don't baby talk, but I do talk to animals. I never thought of this as remotely unusual until I overheard a roommate's girlfriend exclaim "Jack! Scott talks to that cat like it has good sense!". I've simply found that if you treat animals as though they're intelligent, they are much more likely to try to live up to your expectations.
Besides, if I were forced to choose between talking to the cat and talking to that particular roommate's girlfriend, I'd take the cat every single time.

You might be displaying an innate aptitude for sign language. Have you ever taken a course in that? Some people pick it up very easily.

I talk to animals without thinking about it, too. The thing is, my two old cats know what a whole bunch of words mean! I didn't train them, they just learned through time and my unconscious repitition. Now I have to be careful what I say, especially if I mention food. They go into a mad cat swarming frenzy! They've also trained me, because I've learned what all of their different meows mean.

Cats are very good at training their people.

I know. Moss Temperton's death trained me to miss him every now and then, and that was almost 10 years ago.

Oh, by the way, mine's not as deep as most people's with this condition, so no, I won't have any problems.

That's good to know, SNM, thanks for getting back to us on that.
