Default Gregor Samsa

I'm sure you get this question a lot (I think it was touched upon in the interview, too) - but how much of an influence was Kafka in Bad Mojo?

A lot and a little.

Kafka gave the idea credence. Kafka also provided the tone for Roger Samms. Why me? What is happening to me? But Samsa's transformation is clearly metaphoric. And he never leaves the human world. He is a beetle in a human world and Roger Samms is a roach in a roach's world. It gave us a sense that we were onto something a bit more powerful than a simple gimick. We have the gimick, the hook, but the hook can only last for so long. You have to reel them in. Kafka helped us to do that by providing a level of narrative and angst.
