Peasant's Quest VGA Remake
Riiight. Most of you have heard of this game somewhere by now, but I might as well post it here also.
Yes, people, Dogma Day Games is remaking the classic game by Homestarrunner.com. We've taken the graphics, and touched them up, giving them a King's Quest feel. Here's some screenshots http://www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames/Screenshot3.PNG Rather Dashing standing outside his burninated cottage http://www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygame...gecutscene.PNG Rather Dashing Swearing revenge on Trogdor the Burninator http://www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames/Screenshot4.PNG the lake! http://www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames/Screenshot2.PNG the path to Trogdor! http://www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames/Screenshot5.PNG a quick look at the beautifully redone interface, which is not only point and click, but sports a text parser as well. A short preview should be released sometime in June. If you want to check up on our progress from time to time, just visit us at www.freewebs.com/dogmadaygames we also have forums there, which, if you don't want to sit through the website to get to it, you can find it at http://s2.phpbbforfree.com/forums/dogmadaygames.html Hope you guys like it. These pics are old pics, by the way. I've come up with a better method for VGA pictures, so you'll all have to wait till I release those. Oh, BTW, we're still looking for voice actors, musicians, background artists, secondary sprite artists, beta testers, and the like. So, if you want to try your hand at this type of stuff, just PM me some of your work. Later dudes, Alliance |
Well it certainly looks good, but have you asked permission from the guys as Homestar Runner? I mean, this is their stuff you're updating after all, it'd be nice if you at least talked with them before you get even further....
SW |
Am I the only person who thinks it's really ironic that you're updating a game that was a joke to begin with? :D
|
SW's right--it looks good but I certainly hope you asked for homestar's blessing.
|
In other news, I gathered a couple of friends and we're reshooting the updated version of Sin City, this time in full colour! :shifty:
|
i'm still failing to see the point of making this.
|
Heheh, I think it's a great idea :D I love how Peasant's Quest mimicks the King's Quest games, so you're making a VGA remake like the ones done for a couple of King's Quest games :) And they didn't have Sierra's permission...
Although, it couldn't hurt to ask, considering how great a sense of humour the Homestarrunner guys have. |
Well, I'm still waiting for a reply, I asked those guys ages ago, and they haven't answered. Shame. Maybe they're ignoring me, or maybe they just get lots of email. Maybe I should email Strong Bad or something. Who knows?
Also, I'm going to put the updated screenshots up soon, so tell me what you think when you see them. |

Yeah, might as well. Actually, i think it might be better once I finish a rolling demo, then they'd be able to see how far the game has come in the past month.
|
Well, good luck I guess, but I have to tell you--I'm not in the least bit interested in your remake. I think it completely misses the point of Peasant's Quest. AFGN stole my analogy, so I'll just say read his post again. :shifty:
Clearly you've got talent. Why waste it on this? Find something to update that actually should be updated. But hey, don't let me spoil your fun. Good luck. :) |
I think Peasant's Quest is the best fukcing adventure game of the last five years, easy. It deserves an update as much as all those redone shitty Sierra advenures of the eighties didn't. Therefore, the update must be made.
http://timisgod.mixnmojo.com/Misc/slug.gif Oh, and hi, Evan. Missed you at E3. Maybe next year? |
You see, the point of Peasant's Quest was to be a throwback TO those "shitty Sierra adventures of the eighties." To update it is akin to colorizing Young Frankenstein or putting a speaking soundtrack to Silent Movie (odd that the two throwbacks I can think of are both Mel Brooks). Or, to take examples from Homestar Runner itself, to put the "1936" cartoons into the format of normal H*R cartoons, with the normal voices and normal characterizations; it's like taking their Stinkoman game and giving it the engine of one of the N64 Megaman games. It's completely missing the point of the original. No offense. But that's just how I see it.
|
Or maybe it's you who're missing the point of the remake?

By the way...as a point of clarification for new readers...I have spent more time writing this post than Kingz has playing Sierra games. His comments about them are akin to me displaying my distaste for South Egypt's restaurant selection. So I wouldn't get all excited about him being in your corner, Alliance. But hey, I'm always happy to know I still possess the power to redirect your lifeboat, you monster. :) |

The thing is that pretty much every pre-VGA Sierra game has either had a fan remake, has one under development, or at one time had one under development. KQ 1-4, QFG 2, LSL 2-3, SQ (several of them), PQ 2 (at least), LB:TCB, COC ...
If Peasant's Quest was a parody of and tribute to the early Sierra graphic adventures, Peasant's Quest VGA has the opportunity to be a parody of and tribute to the fan remakes. Also, it has a wonderful sense of the fan community eating its own tail, having gone through the entire golden age back catalog for inspiration, and now starting over again for a second iteration. |
I seriously, seriously doubt that a parody of the fan games movement has anything in the world to do with what Alliance is trying to do here. You've given him way too much credit.
Again, I'm just trying to say that I think it's a waste of talent, which Alliance obviously has. I just wish he'd make something original. I'll simply thoroughly ignore this game and hope for that to eventually happen. |
