Introducing LASSIE

The Lingo Adventure Scripting System and Interactivity Engine, or LASSIE, is a Lucas Arts style adventure game creation utility using Macromedia Director and Flash elements to allow quick and easy definition of interactions and environments through a graphical interface. Rooms can be laid out through a click and drag system, while interaction data is captured in the secondary 'Copilot' window. In addition, LASSIE has been developed with the non-programmer in mind. A collection of interactive modules have been assembled to limit the developer's programming tasks to single-line commands.

What it Takes...
All you need is ambition and the ability to make Flash animations. Beyond that and some standard image editing, all you need is the LASSIE development package (available in the downloads section). All animated material can be generated in Flash, then the SWF files can be imported directly into LASSIE for integration with your game. While the LASSIE application is built using Macromedia Director, the system has been compiled into a self-executable file, so eliminating any need for the developer to own or understand Director.

I downloaded it today to give it a try and I just can't say enough about this and how good it looks .
If you want to do a game and you use a Mac this is your chance to make one .
And it is freeware as long as the game is not sold .

Lassie... that's the engine Kingzjester's Backfire Killed the Sly was supposed to use.

LASSIE has gone official, since this thread was created. The website has gotten an overhaul, some new documentation has been added, features implemented, and there's a new forum.

LASSIE is the engine I'm using for my game, Nearly Departed.

I must say the improvements and additions in version 1.01 are great. My game's coming along really nicely.

I'll hopefully have some snazzy updates soon for the little website I put up:

No.

And before Lassie, Agast, however.

Erwin_Br 11-19-2005 05:16 AM

Oh wait, you're right. The udderless cow game was supposed to be made with SCRAMM.

Ah, Scramm... The most vaporware of all vaporware. Even Glumol was more real.

It's what happens to ALL WHO OPPOSE THE ALMIGHTY AGS.

Your stalkerish memory freaks me out, but soon, I will disappear, die and be reborn and I will thus lose your trail!

BTW, Greg, that thing has advanced so ****ing much. Quite, quite impressive.

Seeing as how I've got no programming skills, I may be interested in this. But then again, it requires a proficiency with flash animation, which I'm not familiar with. Could the engine also work with regular animations (as in 'input 8 bmp images for walk cycle', etc)?

Orange Brat 11-20-2005 07:41 PM

Open Office will export to SWF format. You could import your frames and export out the animation.

The engine does also accept GIF animation, though I don't think for the player character. Still, it might be possible to do a whole game with just the player as the only Flash element. And in my game, I'm doing most of my frames for my animation in Illustrator since it can export to .swf, then I just use Flash to animate the frames.
