Default Five magical amulets released

We are happy to announce that a new adventure game Five magical amulets is available for download at http://offstudio.fabry.cz (142 MB).

It's a fairy tale game in the style of King's Quests or Kyrandia with hand-drawn graphics. The game tells a story of a young girl Linda, as she travels through the magical land of Nyron where she is eventually bound to fight an evil which threatens to destroy the whole world. Together with Linda the player will visit about seventy locations divided into four chapters, and they will meet about fifty game characters.

I always say: "If it got penguins, it must be good."

I'm downloading it right now.

Umm...Could you maybe compress the file in a *.zip file or something?

My Internet is fast - 24 MB/s, and it still says that this download will take 12 hours (!). The *.exe file like this is just too big.

More hamsters needed in that server.

Although it's an .exe, it's a compressed archive already, sorry. The game just IS that big and we already compressed everything where possible... just don't give up - or go to Czechia and buy the newest release of the LEVEL magazine.

Darn, you're right, the server slows down currently. I'll retry later, unfortunately there is no mirror yet.

This looks great... I'll be downloading it with GetRight, in case something goes wrong and it has to stop. It'll still take awhile, but I'm patient. I'd just hate to have to restart all over again.

Probably a good idea. I'd just left mine going and having just checked, it's already resumed download 4 times.

Speaking as someone who got in on this project at a late stage (and thus got to beta test a late production English version) I can say it's well worth the download time. Wasn't this bad when I downloaded my test copy so hopefully it's just a server glitch/over popularity. Persevere.

A mirror is available at Adventure Developers.com, which should be faster: http://adventuredevelopers.com/downloads/5ma_setup.exe

Has anyone played it yet?

So far I like it very much, alone the amount of locations and different characters is very impressive for an indie game, the story is really interesting and the soundtrack outstanding.

I think fans of Kings Quest and similar games should not hesitate to download it, you won't be dissapointed :-)

I'm very impressed by it. This will certainly be a contender for any 2005 amateur adventure awards.

Just wanted to say that I decided to give this game a try, and so far, I'm having fun with it. I can see the King's Quest inspiration too. I don't want to be the first one to point out something negative with it (at least IMO) but the only thing I didn't like so far was the (spoiler):

Spoiler:
Four-leaf clover puzzle. I wasted so much time looking in a different direction of a "lucky item" because after checking clovers in the Twelga's garden, as well as several of them at the woodpecker screen, Linda would simply say, "Nothing of interest here". The fact that she would not even do a bend-down animation to thoroughly check the bushes seemed like an indication that all were useless. Since four-leaf clover isn't the only symbol of luck, I started thinking that maybe the author had a different one in mind. That took a lot of unnecessary time and frustration until I started clicking on clovers again in desperation, thinking that maybe it was a game's bug that she wasn't searching them. And finally, only a single "bush" would result in a four-leaf clover. I thought that was a designer's oversight because she would actually do a bend animation to check for it. You may say, "well, she bent because she had to pick it up" but that would be wrong because Linda first bends, then says, "Hmm... let's check this" (or something like that), and only then says, "Four-leaf clover!". If you wanted people to keep on checking every clover bush, you'd at least make her bend and say, "Hmm, nothing of interest here" rather than stand motionless and imply that they're not worth checking. I mean, how could she tell there weren't any four-leaf ones without bending and thoroughly checking them? And if she could, then at the right bush, she'd say right away, "Four-leaf clover!" before bending, and only bend to pick it up. But that's just IMO.

Also:

Spoiler:
A bit of a doubt on the "Show me Ambra!" cutscene in the game. Wouldn't the couldron show the real Ambra rather then the fake one? Unless the real Ambra never existed in the first place (I don't know yet because I'm still playing the game). Unless the couldron could somehow sense that what Linda meant was the "Ambra" she thought was real.

Anyway, don't misunderstand. After the aforementioned puzzle part, the game once again became enjoyable. I really hope this doesn't come off as some horrible criticism on the author. Not at all. I understand that this was a labor of love, and there are a lot of beautiful things in the game. And yes, the music is quite soothing. But right now I'm off to continue the adventure.
