Egress - The Test of STS-417
Egress is a short form sci-fi adventure game set in the outer reaches of space. The story begins when you, the commander of a two man recon team, are sent hurtling into space during maintenance on an interplanetary probe. After a sudden attack from an black alien substance, you awake on a mysterious planet. Where are you? How did you get there? And why is your partner screaming for help down the intercom… Features include: - Cinematic hand drawn, frame-by-frame 2D animation, including short intro and ending sequences - Multiple endings designed to reflect the actions of the player Screenshots: (click on images for full resolution) http://kramsdesign.com/game-egress/egress-01th.png http://kramsdesign.com/game-egress/egress-02th.png http://kramsdesign.com/game-egress/egress-03th.png http://kramsdesign.com/game-egress/egress-04th.png http://kramsdesign.com/game-egress/egress-05th.png To download, follow the link from my Egress game page. So wow... it's really been WAY too long since I've been in here chatting to you guys, but this along with some of my other work is pretty much the reason why! There is voice acting in the works, but due to a lack of time on my part I haven't been able to get it organised well enough (hence the ongoing delays, for those that have happened to have been following progress). In all honesty though it won't be ready for some time, so until then, please enjoy this version! I'll be sure to update this page as soon as I get a talkie edition completed. Anyways, I'm REALLY looking forward to catching up with everyone again, and seeing what everyone thinks of this! Enjoy! :D |
Nice story setup there. Downloading now.
Voices are good, but can you get someone that can convincingly scream for help over an intercom? :) How's Anna's Room coming along by the way? |
Congratulations about the release, Sughly! I haven't played yet, but I will tell you my impressions as soon as I do.
|
Thanks guys! Haha, this is quite true stepurhan... I've feared for the actors doing bits like that :D (though I've had some great auditions!).
Anna's Room is coming along nicely too, thanks for asking! I won't go into it too much, but I'm currently working on a full game design document for someone who's shown interest in it. Otherwise the first two chapters are complete :D |
Impressive and very interesting little game. I especially liked how it's...
Spoiler: I agree about the connection with the movie Moon that many mention. It's got a lot of that kind of atmosphere. The loneliness... Also 2001: Space Odyssey and The Dig fit in there obviously. Definitely a strong sci-fi concept with an attractive presentation. |
Thanks Ascovel! Means a lot coming from you too! In fact you pretty much hit the nail on the head with what I was aiming for with the game, so it's really made my day that you liked it :D
|
Will be giving it a proper look over this weekend, but if Ascovel likes it, that's a good sign.

Following Freeware November is up. Egress is on the first page.
|
Hey thanks stepurhan! Nice writeup! Hope you had fun with it :D
|
Just played through this twice and liked it a lot.
That door puzzle though, I had to read your explanation of it on the AGS forums to solve it, and I just have to ask, has anyone solved that puzzle without a walkthrough? I seriously recommend adding more clues to it in your updated speech version. If that's still on? I certainly hope it is, I was thinking all along how much more of a punch this could have if it were delivered with nice voice acting. All in all a neat little game, I loved the mood of it. :) Kudos. I look forward to Anna's room! |
Hey thanks for playing theo! Yeah I would love to still do an updated voice version considering the work I put into Egress, but it won't be until Anna's Room (now Anna's Quest!) is done. But yeah, not many people have solved it with the preferred solution as far as I know of! I admit I've been hard on players with the puzzles, but I've learnt a lot from the feedback and it's been HUGELY helpful for me as a developer :D
Thanks again theo! Means a lot :) |
This is a brilliantly atmospheric game, but I agree that...
Spoiler: |
WitchOfDoubt - I thought of the same thing during my own playthrough, but that's not the correct solution at all. :)
|
What is required to run the file? As in, when I download it, what do I use to open the game? I've been trying to play it for a while but I haven't had any luck yet.
|
Sorry Specter Von Baren! I'm not sure you'll still be around to see this since it was the only post you've made and it was nearly a month ago now, but just in case you do...
To play the game, just extract the file from the 'rar' that is downloaded. Then just double click the 'Egress.exe' file. That's it! Keep in mind it's only capable of running on a Windows PC (in other words, it won't play on a Mac). For future reference, it is easier to contact me directly through my email, dbe(dot)krams(at)gmail(dot)com for technical issues since I will be able to reply much quicker! |
