Your favorite AGS games
What games made in Adventure Game Studio are your favorites? I'll start with two of mine:
Cirque De Zale http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/4281/sshot4k.jpg Based on this one, i wish author Rebecca Clements would be more involved into making adventure games. I like the sharp humor, which indeed pays homage to Monkey Island or Simon the Sorcerer but manages to stand on its own as well, and is better than in many, many commercial games. Permanent Daylight http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/362...ntdaylight.gif This one is more in the line of Maniac Mansion and such - evil scientist, saving the world... It's a simple little game but i really liked the atmosphere of it. |
In my case it's definitely the Blackwell games. Really loved them and Convergence was also great to show how cool AGS can be from a visual standpoint.
Also have a soft spot for Downfall. Extremely atmospherical and very immersive. And even if I haven't played it yet I have the feeling I can add Gemini Rue (which seems to be a great game) to my list once I played it. |
Too many to choose.
Any you find in the Following Freeware articles definitely have something going for them. There are a lot of talented people out there making good use of AGS. |
Among the freeware AGS games:
Nelly Cootalot http://i.imgur.com/V6JfT.gif Infinity String http://freeweb.siol.net/zagar413/KZ/pic2.png The Winter Rose http://www.vanwijst.com/games/ruins.JPG A Second Face http://gamesolutions.efzeven.nl/imag...alkthrough.png Shifter's Box http://hardydev.com/wp-content/uploa...hifterPink.png Ben There, Dan That http://www.zombie-cow.com/wp-content...07/btdt_01.jpg the Technobabylon series http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...d/screene1.png Anna http://xiigames.com/wp-content/uploa...ScreenShot.PNG Automation http://kafkaskoffee.com/images/games/automation.gif And among the commercial ones: Blackwell series, TGP, Gemini Rue and Downfall. |

Infinity String looks interesting, quite a "retro" charm to it. |
Emily Enough: Imprisoned. Emily is...um...different.
Ben Jordan #7: The Cardinal Sins. I've been waiting for #8 for a while and I've learned not to hold my breath. Bog's Adventures in the Underworld. And quite a few more to tell the truth. |
It would probably bee the free games, such as "Nanobots", "Emily Enough", and "The White Chamber" for me.

This Maggies winner from last year was pretty good.

A Tale of Two Kingdoms, hands down. It is such a complex and, at the same time, such an old-school adventure game that I still can't believe how much effort was put into it. It topped many Sierra games for me.
I love the Chzo Mythos series by Yahtzee, especially 5 Days a Stranger and Trilby's Notes. Better than Downfall (too much gore for my taste), which is still a nice one-man production. And King's Quest 2 VGA. I still consider it the best thing the talented AGDI team came up with. Probably the second best King's Quest game ever made. There were many other decent AGS games, like Blackwell series, The Winter Rose, The Apprentce and the crazy Ben There, Dan That dilogies. So many talented people out there. |

My favourite AGS game to date has to be Gemini Rue

Further to others mentioned above, I have to mention the Barn Runner series of games. http://www.barnrunner.com/games.html or http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?...rm=barn+runner on the AGS website.
Honestly some of the funniest games I have ever played (freeware or commercial), very well written, brilliant characters and game world and an interesting and really funny story. The game also has different paths, with some decisions taken even affecting later games in the series. Presently 5 games in to the series (together with some "spin off" "arcade" style games which aren't necessary for the main story but are fun in any case). If you haven't played them then you need to do so. Now. |
Favorite ags game is "Prodigal" and I did beta beta testing and I'm sure you'll enjoy it! I't a freeware!
Prodigal That game got rewarded as best story game few years ago (read interview) http://www.reloaded.org/interview.php?IntID=21&PID=201 The developper is doing a commercial one as sequel. Be free to play first one and if you want help out with sequel by all means contact the developper! He'll appreciate that! |

Sorry, for the double post, but I just remembered...
When in desperate need for disturbing chillers, you can't go wrong with Merry Christmas, Alfred Robbins: http://www.myrlik.com/image/alfred_s...ot_640x400.png Very underrated in the AGS database IMO. Just looking at that image again makes me shiver. |
