Return of the Tentacle (DOTT2)
Hi!
I am new here, and i just want to inform you about our project Maniac Mansion 3: Return of the Tentacle hoping to get some response. Besides it would be great to get a bit international. I am one of the graphic artists. A few months ago, i have made a kind of promotion video hoping to get some help from potential graphic artists out there. We are working hard day to day, but our small number of members (especially graphic artists) constricts our fluent and efficient work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osAMPo40MZo We also got some other news for you: About two weeks ago, we've started the first test runs for a new engine. Now it's official: from now on, we'll work with the Wintermute engine. The years before we were using the Visionaire engine. The Visionaire-team did a great job and we'll miss their support in any case. Visionaire is an easy to use programming software, which also allows greenhorns to develop their own games. But that's not our class anymore. Especially since the last few months, results get better and better. It's our goal to bring you the best adventure gaming experience. Just to make that sure, we immediately count on the wintermute engine. Enclosed you can see a brand new ingame screenshot of Bernards journey through ... whatever. you'll find out in the full version. ;) http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2227/screencn.png visit us: www.dott2.org mail us: [email protected] ps: A few days ago our first public bulletin board went online. There's also an english subforum for you, so you're very welcome to take part on some discussions if you want. We'll always stay up to date for you, so you always could take a look for some news. board.dott2.org Hope to see you there! Greetings from germany |
Looks good! ;)

yay!!! can't wait!!
|
hey, thanks a lot!

About the style, it's not what I would expect being a DoTT game.
Examples: http://quakeulf2.deviantart.com/art/...tacle-93186036 http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=bern...et=24#/d1u51vf http://bschulze.deviantart.com/art/F...ard+dott&qo=26 http://hiugo.deviantart.com/art/DOTT-Floor-1-151437193 Bernard: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3dsrNsA3ny...heTentacle.jpg http://img.youtube.com/vi/oaFI4YlCVdE/0.jpg That, doesn't look much like B. Just trying to be helpful. At least I would be more enjoying it, if something changed :) Sorry for being less positive, but at least I speak from a gamer point of view. Anyway, good luck! |
hey jannar,
that's totally okay for us. but it's impossible to please everybody, hope you can understand. but in my personal opinion (according to the first and the fourth example), vector graphics are not the best way to create a P&C-adventure with a real old school cartoon atmosphere, last but not least 'cause of the fact that we're doing a sequel to such a great cultic adventure game. it's hard not to break the DOTT-style, so in my eyes, drawing and painting achieve the best results in this case, cause vector graphics don't have this "handicraft" style (is this the right word for that?), which DOTT used to have. but thanks for your comment though! negative critiques are as welcome as positive ones. |
The problem is mostly about the form of his head.
(If you ignore the big problem which is that you have no right doing a DOTT-sequel, that is. But some people do like fangames, so…) |
hey guys,
here, take a look at the final character design. http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5621/castq.png hope you like it. ps: programming is progressing very well. greetings or better this one? ;) http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/6831/27456270.png |
I'm still not interested, but now that's only because I'm inherently uninterested in fangames. The characters look right now - good work!
|
that's ok of course. ;)
but thanks a lot for your compliment! |
I've always found fan games, much like fan films, inexplicable. They're almost always terrible. It's like, "hey! Do you have an intense desire to output something creative but lack any sort of creativity of your own? Well boy, have I got the job for you."
But uh, don't let that stop you from drawing pictures. I'd just be wary of getting my hopes too high that I'll suddenly stumble upon an extraordinarily talented team of programmers willing to work for free with nothing but their own motivation to push themselves forward. |
i can understand your point of view, and i've had the same opinion before i got into the fanadventure scene.
i know, there are a lot of horrible fan adventures out there. i've played almost all of them (at least the more popular, bigger ones, not every single small one). but that's not generally the case. zak mckracken: between time and space and baphomets fluch 2.5 are great games in general, altough they are fan made. the only difference between fanmade and commercial games is, that people don't get payed for their job. but anyway, there are definitely semi-professional people out there, who really attach importance to create a game which also has a very nice look and a lot of creativity in it, without getting money for doing that. edit: sorry, i meant the english title "broken sword" instead of the german "baphomets fluch". |
i have found that some fan games have been really good. broken sword 2.5 for example took many years to make and was very good. Yes there were some flaws but a lot less than bs3 lol.
i loved dott and so i will prob replay nearer a time when this project is nearing completion. Good luck and i look forward to the game, the screenshots and art look good so far. |
thank you!

Is this a new project? I was following a german DOTT2 project at least 4 years ago...
|
hi skeeter,
uhm ... yes, that was our project you've seen there, but it isn't nearly the same as it was four years ago. the graphics have changed a lot and there were a couple of revisions. in 2009, one year after the team got another leader, we found the right style for our game we can proceed with. apart from that, almost every team member has left the project and new people came in. in my eyes, the first 5 years (2003-2008) just were the (extended) warm-up phase and in a normal way, a project would never take 7 years for one demo version. but today everything's better and the working flow is right there. it's like we're working since one or two years, cause our game contains almost nothing from the years before. |
Ah cool... I await the game then! :)
|
|
Nice ! :9

One of my favorite games
I have played DOTT probably 20 times. It is one of my most favorite games. I can't wait to play your game. I couldn't find the English version on your web page. Is there a way to get on the mailing list so that I will know when it comes out?
