Nearly Departed Status?

Has anyone heard any updates on the status of Nearly Departed? The home page has not been updated in a while. Love all things zombie, and the demo was great! I hope it is still in production!

I've been wondering the same thing. I keep checking the site, but there's never any news. Emerald City Confidential is out now, so I imagine there's more time for the project. Unless, of course, he's gotten involved in another game, which is to be expected with his apparent skills.

Also really enjoyed the demo. Hopefully it'll get finished I like the idea.

JohnGreenArt 07-16-2009 09:23 AM

I've been very bad in not updating the website. There's been an interesting development in regard to the game, but nothing definite so no solid news I can talk about yet. One way or another the game will be finished. Minus sound and music the game is around 70% right now.

I haven't had much time to work on it because I did end up working on other games (one the recently announced Puzzle Bots, www.wadjeteyegames.com/puzzlebots.htm and the other a sequel which has briefly been teased), and am also working on content for a console with the initials P, S, and 3.

Glad to hear people are still looking forward to it, sorry other things keep getting in the way of its completion.

Oh, Mapoco, I like your Mouse Guard avatar.

J.H 07-17-2009 04:13 AM

lol thanks, can't get enough of Mouse Guard. It would make a great adventure game.

Btw I can't download the demo from the site any more there's some kind of error on the page

AZEnigma 07-17-2009 08:45 AM

Good to hear it is still on its way! I can't wait for more info.

The link to the demo: http://lassie.gmacwill.com/files/games/nd_win.zip

Thanks AZEnigma, I had it on my laptop but not on my pc :D

So the game's not done, but since it's nearing Halloween I decided to release an in-progress build. More info and a link on the game's news page:

Thank you! Just started downloading.
I will play the demo on Halloween - very curious about the progress. I loved the other demo. :D

Where can I get a flash player so I can play the game on my hard drive? I only find the browser player on the adobe website.

J.H 10-13-2009 03:40 PM

Isn't this the same as the old demo?

The game begins at the same point, so if you played the old demo you'll have to play through it again. But you can go a lot further in the game than in the old demo, and some of the puzzles are a little different.

The new demo also runs in FlashPlayer or a web browser, whereas the old one was its own application.

Iceadventure: You can only play the game on your hard drive. Even though it can run in a browser, it loads everything off your computer, not online. But I believe you can get the standalone Flash Player app here:

This actually looks very good and interesting, though personally I'm not really sold on the design style. Too Nickelodeon for my taste, but that's certainly no general problem so still a good job!

Iceadventure 10-17-2009 01:03 PM

I have been trying the browser option to play the game and when I try to press escape nothing happens. How do I get the esc key to work so I can save the game?

JohnGreenArt 10-18-2009 07:11 PM

The save function doesn't work properly, unfortunately, so I'm not sure what results you'll get when you try to save and reload. It states this in the screen when you start the game. That said, I just tried the browser version in Firefox and Safari and ESC brings up the menu, as does just about any other key. Is the game freezing? There have been instances of the game getting stuck in a loop where it will just become unresponsive.

Iceadventure 10-19-2009 05:05 AM

Esc works now. I tried it several times on the day that I made the message here and it just did not work I have no idea why. No freezes when I play and I am going to keep playing and hopefully I will get lucky with the save function.

On a side note, if anyone's curious to see one of the projects that's keeping me from working on Nearly Departed, you can see some of it here:

http://undeadyourself.com

Coincidentally enough, it's zombie related. I co-wrote and did the story boards for the video that should be the first or second entry, as well as designed the zombie hunt game that'll be taking place in PlayStation Home over the next week. Most of the text in the entries I wrote, and I came up with the fake sidebar ads, too.

seagul 10-23-2009 05:05 AM

The zombie-theme stucks on you. ;)

Looks great.
When i'm at home again, with my own computer, i will be part of the zombie hunt. :9

can someone make this clear for me, Nearly Departed will ever get a late departing .. or is it never more?

because this game look more intriguing than the upcoming telltale's walking dead!
