Butterfly - development in progress
Hi everyone, I wanted to put some info about my game that I'm currently developing with WME (Wintermute Engine) and Flash. "Butterfly" is a dark cyberpunk/s-f story which takes place in Shanghai of the year 2099.
The plot revolves around a stolen prototype of AI microchip, developed at a huge cost by ZEN Technologies, a powerful corporation from Shanghai. John Kenner, the main protagonist, was one of ZEN's best agents, a field work specialist and interrogation expert. A few months prior to the beginning of the game, his wife has been murdered as he witnessed helplessly. Since then, John has addicted himself from psychotropic drugs and was eventually thrown on the scrap heap. Unexpectedly, he is visited by his superior and is given the microchip case. He also has to commit to a treatment by taking a dose of a special medicine every few hours. John manages to trace back the stolen AI but as the mission evolves, new surprising facts surface and everything begins to resemble a nightmare where actual reality mixes with a virtual one. Some of the "Butterfly" features: - unique gameplay, resembling interactive comic book - mixture of 2D and 3D graphics - many short animations and special effects - original soundtrack composed for the game (30 tracks) - thrilling fast-action sequences (gun fights, hand-to-hand, chases, virtual reality) The game will be freeware. Planned release: 2009 For all the information, latest screenshots and other files, check out the project's website: http://butterflygame.blogspot.com Below a preview of a few screenshots and concept arts: |

Looks very nice and I'm a big fan of xyberpunk so I look forward to seeing more on this.
Ironic that you're using an engine with a name from a cyberpunk story to develop this.

Looks great man. Why did you chose wintermute and not ags? Just as a matter of interest because I'm using ags but may switch.

Ah cool, I'm thinking about changing my engine to either wintermute or visionaire. Still considering it though. How much of your game is completed it looks amazing?

You realize that these games look amazing not because of the engines they're made in but because of the artists creating the graphics, right?

LOL of course. I'd have to be a moron to think otherwise I was just wondering about engines and commenting on the artwork at the same time.

I hope so as I feel games with only text seem so outdated now. Voice acting also adds to the whole feel of the game. I could help you find some voice actors if you did go down that route.

Project's back . Sorry for those who were interested in it for all the months of inactivity and lack of updates. I had too much stuff on my head and BF had to wait, buried somewhere on my drive. But...
The project has now a new, proper website ( www.butterflygame.glt.pl). New information, WIP, concept art, audio files (soundtrack samples) have been added. Soon, new sections will appear as well: Characters and Universum. I also created a small forum to answer any questions folks you might have. Cheers. |

I have to agree that this looks pretty amazing, particularly for a one man job. Have you done all of this as part of a particular work related project or has it all been done out of hobby and personal interest? Just curious
