Open Sludge

Just wanted to be the first to say it: SLUDGE is going Open Source! The engine behind award winning games like Out of Order will soon be available for your tinkering, porting to other platforms, etc., etc. courtesy of Tim "Santa Claus" The Furnish. What a guy! Breaking news here: http://www.hungrysoftware.com/forums...messageID=4006

Interesting news. I greatly enjoyed Out of Order so it would be interesting to see what others could do with the same engine.

That you can already see (look at my sig for one example - other good games made with SLUDGE are Nathan's Second Chance, Cubert Badbone and The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship), but it's good that the engine won't be abandoned, so that bug fixes and other improvements to it can happen. And I'm interested in doing a MacOS port of it.

Not heard of the first one but I have heard of the other two. Never knew they were Sludge. Thanks for the heads up.

I liked SLUDGE when I used it, even though WME fits my needs a lot better at this point in time. I'm not really interested in working on OpenSLUDGE itself, as I'd rather make games than engines, but I'd be interested in tinkering with it once more if it became cross-platform.

one + two = three. I mentioned four games. Maybe my plug was too subtle. :) I used SLUDGE to make Frasse. (Which is part of the reason why I want to see it on MacOS - I want to be able to run my own game on my main computer.)

Oh, and there are two games currently being made with SLUDGE that I'm very much looking forward to.

Yep, way too subtle. You need to use a larger font for that link. I've already played that one several times anyway. :D
