I'm a professional voice actor living in Melbourne, Australia. I specialise in character voices and speech patterns, and I'm experienced in many types of voice over. Actually I just come back here to try and find out the exact same thing and even more co-incidental I also live near Melbourne!

I have always wanted to do voice acting as I have somewhat a large interest for it.

There are so many poor voice acting out there, especially in Animes or they sound a lot the same.

I run a business myself but have always had an interest in doing this work on the side.

I am always looking for talented and savvy voice actors. I build Flash games to be distributed for free on the internet. The first episode of the JF series was played more than a million times... so it gives a lot of exposure.

Please, send a demo file if you have one. That way, I know what's your range and what you sound like. I could attribute characters without going through the audition process or even design a character specifically to match your voice/accent/whatever.

When I was a kid, I wanted Mel Blanc's (voice of Warner Brothers cartoons) job, which I thought was the best in the world--partly because I thought it was a way I could capitalize on my habit of imitating family and friends without getting into trouble. :devil:
But seriously, if you want to get into this area, the best thing you can do is, as JohnnyB says, put together a demo to demonstrate what you can do. My first job in media was as a scriptwriter and voice talent for an audiotex company, and I got it because I had a degree in writing, experience in theatre, and had a radio show in college--so the point is, you really have to sell your abilities through a resume and a demo disc. Used to be that you had to go into a studio to make a demo worth hearing, but I think today's home computers are sophisticated enough that the production values will be fine for what you're doing. Once you have that demo, be prepared to send it everywhere and to everyone, and keep your chin up--rejection is the norm, even when you're great. Good luck--:)

I agree. If you are serious into the voiceacting business:

1) prepare a perfect demo file
2) collaborate as a freelance or volunteer to a few projects that will get published to build a cv (be selective though)
3) start applying

One of the actors that was working with me made it this way and is now really successful.
He played a few characters in the second installment of the JF series, built a nice cv and is now voice acting for Pokemon!!!

If you live in Melbourne, and you think about voice acting as a profession, forget about it. Melbourne is still a wasteland for the film and television business.

If you're into commercial voice over though, and you have a perfect Aussie accent, you have a good chance of earning a live-able salary doing voice-overs in Melbourne, but it is a tough business, and you really have to know how to market and direct yourself.

Hi guys. It is not something I really want to do as a profession, just something I am interested in doing as my business is the number 1 priority. I dont mind doing underground and if someone wanted my services after, it is also fine.

Jack, I will send you an email soon. I dont have any characters, and would rather read a characters profile to get to know the personality before fitting a voice to a character. Well I tihnk its easier that way as you can adjust your voice to suit the character.
