Amateur daring to dream
My all-time favourite game was the beautiful 1st person adventure 'Dare To Dream' and I would like to design a game like that, but all the places that have game development kits and such only work with sprite-based adventures with 'walktalktakelook' systems... I am not sure what to do. People instructed me to come here, and here I am.

I'm not seeing alot of info on this game. What was the gameplay like? There are no sprites? So was it like Myst?
PS. I can't believe Unreal's CliffyB used to make adventure games |

If you really want to play Dare to Dream. and you can't find the demo online, then I can dig out an old covermount...

Yah but I already downloaded three different "simple" ones that claimed they could, and none of them can, or it was insanely difficult and had no documentation whatsoever simply because that wasn't what it was "meant" for....
hmmm.... |

Well, if you decide to try Sludge I can promise you all the help you need to get a first-person interface going.

Really?
Great! I'll go check it out, but when I went to the SLUDGE site it was almost incomprehensible at first.... I'll check that. |

And to LaceyWare-
Would that be possible? I have looked all over and even though it is just shareware I still can't get it... |

Well, seeing as you asked so nicely... /rummages around on an old covermount... http://www.laceyware.com/junk/d2d.zip If the link doesn't work, let me know. If the file is faulty, let me know. If the game doesn't work, I can't help you ... |

God send, LaceyWare. I'll still order a copy and see if it comes in from overseas.
None the less, I think a D2D fan-game would be sweet. I remember it being kind of Visual Basicy, but I think with SLUDGE you could do some neat tricks, maybe make it look a little more contemporary and what not. Perhaps even full screen! If you need any help, let me know. m0ds |

Aren't there engines specifically for first-person games, like the following?

I tried it once, I believe, and I cried when I used it.

LOL, figures. Then stick with SLUDGE.
(I did once make an experimental first-person interface with it. It even had 360-degree panoramic scenes...) |

With AGS it's easy to make 1st person games as well. Just in case anybody was wondering. Come on, don't deny it; you Sludgers totally wish you were cool enough to use AGS.
P.S. Sludge is cool. I just enjoy creating rivalry. |

AGS is for masochists. That said, I have recently started using it.
