O'Sirus the Snip

Hey folks, just wanted to announce the game I am working on, using the wonderful AGAST system. It will probably be at least a year before I am finished (one man team) but here are some early images (There will be a lot more going on in the background and the font will be changed):

Looking good. Obviously it's a silly choice of engine (as we all know, AGS is by far the superior system ;)), but it's definitely looking promising nonetheless. Looking forward to this one.

Hey, you don't happen to be that Hellbent Deathspew (?) guy from Bloodlust software?

That looks very interesting, I'd like to hear more about this project in the future.

*slaughters AGA*

Yes, Hellbent Deathspew was one of my many twisted personas ;)

Those are some mighty nightmare-inducing screenshots!

I be drooling in anticipation. Keep us informed on your progress!

I think it looks great! Keep us updated. Do you have a website?

I have no website for this project up yet, but once I have a couple more screenshots, I'll get something going. I have a lot of background information and humor regarding the Gnarled Scar (O'Sirus' world) and the Knobbly Crook (goblin city) that could be interesting...I just need to dig it up.

Marek 01-07-2004 11:38 AM

That's an interesting visual style you have there. It really sets your game apart. Good luck with the project!

Erkki 01-07-2004 12:22 PM

It looks really original. Looking forward to it.

The graphics were never the most important part of the game for me, but I keep getting amazed how gorgeous look can people pull out in so-called amateur projects. It looks really fabulous. Could you drop a line about style/theme/plot of the game as well (just some basic info, to make us even more anxious)?

Ringmaster Bent 01-07-2004 06:33 PM

Hmm, a lot of background to tell on this one because I was originally making it a platform game in Click and Create. Here the basic idea:

This world was once peaceful with your typical fantasy sissy gnomes, dwarves, elves..etc...until a giant mass of junk tore through the sky and hit the surface of the planet. The junk was the essence of chaos and it distorted the land around it (hence the weird looking purple stuff in the screenshot). Eventually the goblins rose from the tainted ground - the children of chaos. Man and giants were twisted by the essence and became ogres and trolls. The Elves escaped it by moving their cities high into the trees, but they also became incredibly snooty. The Gnomes dug below the surface to escape, but the Dwarves who had thought of the same idea but were too slow dug deeper below them. The Dwarves ran out of food, went mad, and now they are slobbering beasts who eat the gnomes.

That's the history of the Gnarled Scar world. This adventure will take place mostly in the Knobbly Crook, the goblin city that built itself around the original junk heap (now their god).

O'Sirus is a simple goblin living in a society that has no laws and has severe laws at the same time. The law changes daily, as does the royal family. Only the King remains a stable figure because he wears a piece of the junk around his neck. A new law is passed saying that all Goblins must serve three years in the Guffaloon (goblin royal guard) on the frontlines of the war against (well, they don't know who it is against).

O'Sirus starts in a trial, chained, and the game lets you play his flashbacks for each crime he has been accused of committing, starting with the crimes committed to properly enter the Guffaloon.

The unique thing about O'Sirus' character is that he controls rock, paper, and scissors, and while they are only a few of the many objects in the game, they add a weird new aspect to the game. For example:

O'Sirus needs to get into a shack, but it's locked. He sees a paper key (paper animals, paper tools, rock statues, and things with scissors are found all over the Knobbly Crook) sitting on a counter through the window. He tries to pick up the key and gets the rejection message that its behind a sturdy window. The player takes one of their infinite sheets of paper and clicks it on the key. O'Sirus says that it doesn't look too hard and makes an origami duplicate of the key, of course it fits into the lock, and he gets inside.

Heh, it's quite funny that you've got this complex fantasy plotline worked out, yet you still refer to "typical fantasy sissy gnomes" and elves becoming "incredibly snooty". Still, the story sounds good. Is it gonna be straight fantasy stuff, or will it be quite humourous too?

Ringmaster Bent 01-08-2004 06:02 AM

It's completely a comedy. There's no way this game could take itself seriously.

Dark humour, I presume?

Absolutely!

The little claw device in the screenshot is a "Colon Extractor" by the way.

Looks great! Keep posting!
