Help? (with underground recommendations)
What would amateur adventure game would you guys recommend? I’ve played “Sofia’s Debt” and “The Dead City.” I want to take a break from the action games. Is there an amateur adventure with a decent storyline and puzzles that actually “makes sense?”

Two of a Kind (link on the right-hand side) is a nice light adventure with two playable characters with their own unique (and extraordinary) abilities.
Five Magical Amulets is a fairy tale style story which has won much critical acclaim and awards. (I must admit to being involved with this one. I proofread and beta-tested the English version) The games of Yahtzee are always something I've enjoyed. 5 days a stranger and 7 days a skeptic are horror stories (7 days is a sequel. 5 days should be played first) The trials of Odysseus Kent and The Rob Blanc trilogy are humorous games. Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment has some elements of a trading game in an adventure setting. There are arcade style sequences in this one so you might want to avoid it if you don't want action. 1213 is a platformer. Ben Jordan is a series of games about a paranormal investigator. I'd say the first and second ones could have used a bit more polish but from case 3 onwards the series has really hit its stride. I'm really looking forward to the release of episode 5. I'd recommend playing the earlier ones for backstory if nothing else. Hopefully that's enough to get you started. No doubt other recommendations will be along shortly.

Thanks man! "Two of a Kind" looks kind of quirky. I'll give it a shot!

Hmm, a way of letting people know what we think of games... Now why didn't we think of that?!

You could also try the Apprentice(s):

Don't forget Out of Order, Cubert Badbone PI, Nick Bounty.... head over to adventuredevelopers.com for a pretty good database (although obviously the entries aren't all great.)

I played Cubert Badbone P.I. yesterday and it is a fun game. Good detail in the graphics. It´s not very long and quite easy. I am playing as many of those underground adventures as I can lately and having fun. Just finished robotragety. Stargate or just another point and click adventure will be next

Out of Order is definitely a top recommendation (played it ages ago so it slipped my mind) Not a fan of Pleurgburgh though. Seemed to rely on you revisiting particular locations without a good reason to advance the story.
Spoiler:

Enjoying "Two of a Kind" so far. Great humor and I've yet to encounter any "uh, what do I do now" moments. Oh yeah, when you get Tiffany to speak to the goldfish...that's one of the most funniest moments I've had in gaming. Pure genuis that was!
