Default Finished FanMade Adventure Game Projects?

hi all, i just discovered this forum

ive been getting alot back into old adventure games lately..
I nearly shit my pants when i discovered AGD interactive and their remakes of KQ 1 + 2 and the work in progress of QFG2 !!! Amazing!!

cant wait for the qfg2 one, sooo exciting! hehe

my question is, what other fan projects of discontinued series have there been in the past? Any must play games created out there? I see lots of really promising works in progress like the hero6 project... sq7 project.. kg9.. indy FoY.. starcontrol timewarp..

but havent come across anything completed..

Anything i should know about??

Or are there any other great indie game originals that have been completed/released? Rise of the Hidden Sun looks really promising.. just wana know if theres anything really amazing out there ive missed.

thanks!

Welcome to the forum, inflikkt.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that making a fan sequel/remake to the discontinued series usually results in lesser game than an original idea (some people here would disagree). There are, however, exceptions which make the rule, and AGDI is certainly one of them. I think you basically listed all the upcoming projects that have the greatest chance to be such exceptions.

As for already released games, I haven't played them, but Maniac Mansion deluxe (point'n'click remake) and Space Quest: The Lost Chapter are two which have exceptionally good accompanying word of mouth.

As for the original games, some great indies off the top of my head are - in no particular order: Apprentice 1&2, 5 Days a Stranger, Pleurghburg, Cubert Badbone, Case of the Crabs and Goat in the Grey Fedora. Also browse our underground section both here on the forums and on the main site to find things that may appeal to you.

For fan games based on discontinued series there's also The New Adventures of Zak McKracken, Night of the Hermit and Quest for Glory 4.5. And I think there's a remake of Larry 2 that adds mouse control too.

As for original fan games, I've heard a lot of good things about Cirque de Zale, and I'd suggest trying out No Action Jackson, Soviet Unterzögersdorf, Robotragedy and Two of a Kind along with AFGNCAAP's suggestions.

The best fan game I've stumbled upon, KQ1 and 2 aside, is Maniac Mansion Deluxe.

There is also the AGI Space Quest 0: Replicated that came out a few years ago, and has been well received, but garnered little attention.

What the hell did I mean here? (like the original weren't point and click? )

Anyway, not really an indie, but maybe you'd like to know Beneath a Steel Sky was released as freeware a couple of years ago, and if you start playing soon you may catch up on our first Community Game Playthrough.

Also, there is new and improved Christmas Quest.

I tend to agree that I'd rather see original works then remakes of previous stuff, although that Maniac Mansion Deluxe and King's Quest II were both excellent titles.

Great original titles I can think of include the aforementioned 5 Days A Stranger (bar none my favorite freeware title, it just all clicks), 7 Days A Skeptic, Pleurburgh, the entire Ben Jordan series (especially #3, which rocks), the White Chamber, and possibly Prodigal, though I haven't finished it yet to know for certain.

Good to know you continued reading the post to see what I was actually talking about instead of just bursting into rant mode at the sight of an opinion that might just differ from your own. Oh wait...

I've no intention of going into a terminology debate with you or anyone else. Fan Games = Made by Fans, adding "Original" implies that it's not based off an existing license/universe. End of story.

Everyone else seems to have realized what I was talking about, but then, they probably finished reading my post.

Check out AGS's website for a lot of fanmade adventure games:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/

Now other than KQ1 and KQ2, there aren't a lot of good remakes out there.
There's a promising-looking KQ3 in the works, but their site hasn't been updated in ages:
http://www.infamous-adventures.com/i...hp?page=kq3vga

KQ4, even greater frozen status:
http://www.nancycarterdesign.com/spongefactory/

This site chronicles a lot of Sierra remakes, but likewise hasn't been updated in forever:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~loeky/Remakes.htm

Finally, there's the KQ9 fangame that has been receiving a lot of buzz on this site:
http://www.kqix.com/home.php

So basically other than KQ1 + KQ2, no great "remakes". My advice would be don't hold your breath on any of these, instead play some great LucasArts or the tons of other old adventure games out there. If you need help finding any PM me and I'll help you out.

My mistake, I meant their project page. It's been predicted as "Late 2005" for almost a year now.

Geez, no need to hit me on the head.

The KQ3 page claims to be on line with Tierras games but they will not have voices. The arts looks superb though.

That's a bit unfair to Maniac Mansion Deluxe, which was mentioned further upthread.

LucasFan Games have closed their website in response to the recent copyright brouhaha, but Google the game title and you'll easily find it.

Yeah, I wish they would make a voice pack, I so much enjoy a game with voices to express the personality and emotion.

I'm not sure where you are finding this information about the voices, but on the IA forums, it appears they are indeed looking for voice actors, and already have much of the voices recorded:

Also, looks like the game is basically finished except for beta-testing! Hopefully we'll be playing it this spring!

PS: Snarky, yes sorry for over-looking MMD, I was only listing Sierra remakes.

Last time I checked they weren't going to have voices. But this is great.

I can't wait for QFI either.
