Sam and Max Are Returning In A New Fangame Series
MID-MORNING PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES FREE DOWNLOADABLE SAM AND MAX ADVENTURE GAMES
www.flintlocked.com The independent games developer Mid-Morning Productions announced today the development of three new adventure games based off of the beloved characters of Steve Purcell’s comic series, Sam and Max. The games will have separate release dates and will be available independently, but they will all be part of a single story arc, entitled Sam & Max: Flintlocked. After each game’s release, the new game will be available for download from www.flintlocked.com and/or other available mirrors, to run on most computers running a Windows-based operating system. Although the games are "fan games" and Mid-Morning Productions does not own the legal rights for a video game based upon the characters, the games have been given the go-ahead by series creator Steve Purcell, and the developers are dedicated towards creating a hilarious pseudo-sequel to the cult 1993 PC hit, "Sam & Max Hit the Road," developed by Lucasarts. The new games are being developed on the highly flexible SLUDGE adventure game development software, developed by Hungry Software. The demo of the first game should be released some time in 2006, with a closed beta beforehand to test system requirements and general flow of game play. Any further news on the games’ developments will be posted on www.flintlocked.com. Any questions or comments should be directed to the forums located at www.flintlocked.com/forum/. Registering at the site is not required for posting on the forums. About Mid-Morning Productions Appearing in its earliest form on the fan site www.samandmax.net’s forums (forums hosted by www.lucasforums.com) in March 2004, the original proposition of the creation of a Sam and Max fan game was received with many offering their services. However, as time went on and hard work began on the project, many team members dropped away, leaving only a skeleton crew of dedicated members to guide the project. These members have been working on the game for over a year and a half now, and it has become a true labor of love.

This could be very good news. Though I think if Steve realy has given his OK, I'm sure he is getting updates and willl have to give final approval to the overall game. I know I wouldn't want my stuff looking like crap or taking away from any full length game with the same characters. Would you?

Please, try not to post silly things like "Now you can get sued". We've been working on this for over a year, and have thought everything through. We have contacted Steve Purcell on multiple occasions and he has stated that, although he cannot give us the legal rights, he supports the production of a Sam and Max fangame. I too am a bit too lazy (c'mon, it's new years day) to check what he said exactly, but he's fine with it. And we will of course be updating Steve when the games are getting to a more final point, but he's a busy man and we're not bugging him incessantly.
Check out the site, and remember that we're always looking for dedicated team members, especially artists. |

It seems you've invested a lot of time and effort into this project, which is very pleasing to see.
I wish you every success with it. Really makes one wonder why Lucasarts have to put a plug in these efforts, when others are willing to let them continue. Extra kudos go to Steve Purcell, who created these two wacky and well loved characters in the first place and condoned the project. I can't wait to see the results |

LucasArts had owned all of the video game rights to Sam and Max. Telltale games have the right to make a game, not to control all use of Sam and Max in video games.

Yes. Steve Purcell is meerly lending the rights of the characters to the company to make a game, with him supervising of course.
