One adventure where I don't mind the characters being stiff.

I get why this must have taken some time. |

Looks very nice. How much is left (I'm guessing from the "eventually" tag there's plenty)?

There is indeed a lot left, but mostly character animations, inventory, and then just putting stuff in place. Plus sound, music, voices.
It's just hard to estimate how long it will take, what with other projects and responsibilites I have that have that must take precedent.

Sounds like you're over the hump at least. I'd imagine actually putting the parts together is the fun part.

The game's still a ways off from beta testing, and I wouldn't want to estimate a release date at least until then.
In other news, PCGamer magazine's current issue (#172 Volume 15, Number 03, March 2008) is zombie-themed, and it *should* feature a little interview with me plus the Nearly Departed demo on their game disc (and maybe the recent trailer I made, if they got that on time.) I have not picked up a copy yet, so I don't know the extent of the coverage. Hopefully I'll be able to find one today and see if they used any of the new screenshots I sent them.

Someone asked if there was a release date for the game yet, and sadly the answer is no. I'm still working on it, but there is too much left to do, especially in regard to kinks in the engine, to estimate when the game will come out.

Thanks John. Keep going, and keep plugging all the holes.
Really hope the project doesn't fade away. |

Things have been quite on the Nearly Departed front, but the confidential project I've been working on the past many months has finally been announced: Emerald City Confidential!
If you go the the AdventureGamers main page you should see a preview with some screenshots. I did the art for the 40+ backgrounds, plus a little ambient animation on a few of them. It was developed by Wadjet Eye Games (who many should know is Dave Gilbert of Shivah and Blackwell fame) and is being published by PlayFirst. I hope anyone who's looking forward to Nearly Departed will also check out this game when it comes out next January. And now to get back to work on Nearly Departed!

Emerald City Confidential will probably get its own topic sooner than later, but thanks for bumping the thread anyway -- I missed the trailer back in January. Looks sweet.
One question, though. In the finished game, do you also want the left and right walk cycles to be mirror images of one another? The main character's design is clearly asymmetrical, so I find the inconsistency very distracting.
