Adventure Gamer. I had to remove your post as it entirely related to a site that hosts abandonware. I appreciate the intention to help but abandonware links aren't allowed in these forums.

Does anyone remember a game called Maupiti Island. I remember years back playing it on the Atari ST, and while I shouldn't admit it, it was a copy, but by that time Atari games were getting rare and the Glasgow Barras got a lot of French games for some reason. I didn't really know what I was doing but the game looked intriguing and I believe it was released on the PC.

Here is a few which i don't think have been mentioned. Although some may be quite rare (in UK, probably not elsewhere), i Don't think there are any which are very valuable.

Noctropolis
Woodruff (goblins 4)
Hell Cab
Private Eye
Harvester (banned or pulled ? not sure, supposed to be quite rare)
Robot City (Not seen this much in UK)
Lost Eden
Silverload
The Journeyman Project
The Martian Chronicles
Ghostly Desires
Golden Gate
Ecoquest 1 CD
Mother Goose CD
Laura Bow 2 CD
Return to Ringworld CD (Hardly ever see this)
The Scroll (Daugeter of Serpents) CD
Callahans Crosstime Saloon
Inherit The Earth CD
Touche CD
Shadow Of The Comet
Prisoner Of Ice
Zombieville
Gnap (UFO)
Dune CD
Amber
Chronomaster
Beavis & Butthead Virtual Stupidity (seen once and missed it, went for £4.00)

One of my all time favourites is Operation Stealth (have this on UK floppy version) which was released as a James Bond title in America, not sure how rare it is in either format.

Future wars was also released on CD (audio tracks only , no speech) and is ultra rare.

I am waaaay late getting into this. My comments may have been answered before, but there were 11 pages of messages to wade through, so I thought I would cut to the chase.

There are rare games and there are rare games.

There are rare games that are rare simply because they had such limited distribution. I think of the game Comer as an example. It was designed, directed and produced by a single individual, and the only way to purchase it was directly from him. It was well-reviewed, but I think he only sold about 1000 copies. It may still be available for purchase directly, but I would consider Comer to be a rare game.

Then there are games that simply were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Freddy Pharkus Frontier Pharmacist is one of those. It was the last game Sierra published for the 286 platform. A copy in the original box with the original disks and docs is rare. But you can also download a copy from various abandonware sites, and play it using dosbox. So is it really rare? (BTW, I have an original!)

Some people mentioned games such as REAH and Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. They may be rare simply because they didn't sell that well when first released. Someone mentioned that REAH is no longer rare. That may be because someone found a warehouse full of unsold copies, bought them, and is now doling them out, parcel by parcel, on ebay.

Then there are the little games that have kind of a cult following. There were a fair number of copies published, but those that have them don't, or won't give them up. Amber might be an example.

I guess you also have to consider different release versions such as budget, different packaging, limited editions and releases in different countries, as some will be a lot rarer than others.

I dont think Toonstruck is Rare, I have seen many copies still selling on Ebay for less than 10 US $.

I got my very own copy still shrink wrapped in Big Box.

I know its an Ultima, but is Martian Dreams rare? I have the original with floppy 5 1/4 disks and little instruction manual booklet thingys. Its a really nice set. The game still overwhelms me today with its size and detail. I bought it a garage sale (actually a Tandy closing down) and it was still shrinkwrapped.

Are games that come on the floppy 5 /14 disks still worth something? I mean there doesn't seem to be any of those drives still around.

And what about Rome - Caesar's Will? I don't think that's been mentioned yet. Whenever i've searched for it on ebay it's yielded no results.

Hi AGs, anybody here interested in this cheap-o-grab auction?

Those versions came only on 2 CDs.
The FMV quality is probably really crappy...
Hi Ozzie, I'm a bit behind with reply.
Anyway believe me, I know what I'm talking about. Certainly there are console versions but Win3.x is a 6 CD-ROMs monster.
My proof's here:

ROTFL!! Didn't a boxed Alice fetch 2000 dollars a few years ago? Happened only once, but maybe the seller felt inspired.

Greetings Fienepien, well if I'm correct Alice was a bit over 2,000 USD and boxed (with some slight indents - so not in excellent condition).

Certainly the seller got an inspiration there -- an insaneous starting bid.
