Default One week left to join club bad brain for free

http://www.people-net.com/

If you join club bad brain before March you can get in for free. With your free membership you will get updates and media for games like Vampyre Story and I-Jet before everyone else does.

I thought some of you might be interested.

You mean they intend to charge money to put you on an email list and view promotional material?

Lighten up... It says goofy things like that for every field of the membership application that you don't fill in. They're just being silly. If it makes you feel better, the Press Room application is all seriousness, though, and says "please", "thank you", and "may I have another?". Okay, not that last one.

I'm signed up for the club and haven't recieved a single email other then the confirmation with my user id and password. I have no idea what the charge will be, but if anyone's going to complain about it now they should just go ahead and sign up and then they won't have to worry about it. Game sites like IGN.com and the like make subscribers pay for exclusive stuff like articles, videos, etc. This is nothing new. Admittedly, there's not a whole lot there at the moment and whatever material shown will be solely Bad Brain related, but who knows what it will have in a few months? I'm not certain, but I think I also read somewhere that the club membership might also entitle us to discounts at the Bad Brain shop (so when they do release a game... maybe you'd get a few bucks off). Use a junk email address if you're worried, as long as you have access to it so you can reply to the confirmation email.

Default Shady as heck

Ok, bad brain keeps seeming more shady every day. Look at your confirmation e-mail. Look who it says it is from.... "[email protected]" and the subject is "Welcome to club-bad brain" and then at the bottom of the e-mail it is signed "Your [email protected]". So what is the deal here? Who the heck is "[email protected]" and why are they sending me a confirmation for joining the bad-brain club? These are the questions I asked myself. So me, being the investigative type, decided to find out what the heck "mad4movies.de" is. So I went to http://www.mad4movies.de . hmm, looks awfully familiar to the bad-brain website. I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but the bb site seems to be a total rip of this site. Maybe the same dude designed it? I don't really know, I just know that it is pretty cheap and now I feel like a moron for giving them my e-mail address, my name, and my home address.

Edit: upon further investigation I found out that mad4movies.de is indeed " by Wolfgang Kierdorf and Kai Löffler" (quoting the bottom of the site here). So it looks like he didn't change the "from:" header in the mailing script when converting the site to the bad-brain site. Pretty lame. I mean couldn't he have just designed a new site for bad-brain? oh well.

Edit 2: ok, I don't want to make fun of these guys too much since I hope they create good games, but the disclaimer for the bad brain site is pretty hilarious:

I just registered and then I though: Wait a minute... This is just one of those little marketing schemes to get people to register. Its like Disney movies, they always say: "Comming only to cinemas", 2 months later the movie is out on DVD.

"This is your last chance to register. Everyone who registers later will have to pay" Pay what I ask? pay the 2 minutes of their life that it takes to register,

Seriously though, what sane person would actually pay real dollars to register on a game developers website that has never actually released any games?

Hmm, that's a point. It's odd for phone number and address to be required fields. Even more-so on a game developers website.

I think it's just poorly configured DNS, if you ask me (though I don't know enough about it myself).

www.bad-brain.com used to exist on its own, without the redirect to www.people-net.com, and the email used to come From: there too.

Right now the exclusive stuff available for members are storyboards and concept art from Vamypre Story, and I-Jet casting videos. You can see them on the site once you sign up.

And jeez, why are you guys so paranoid about giving your email address to an adventure gaming site? Ok, I do admit the web address is a little weird, but the site itself looks okay. As for giving out my street address, I could care less what happens to it because it's my PO Box for my college dorm.

This isn't your everyday adventure gaming site... This is Bad-Brain's official site!

A Vampyre Story Stuff
http://www.people-net.com/images/avs/

Orgastic 4...
http://www.people-net.com/images/to4/

I-jet...
http://www.people-net.com/downloads/ijet/

You don't need to register to see them. VERY unprofessional.

LOL! just noticed. Well LucasArts doesn't own the rights to those names but still...
Oh well. As long as their games are OK.

I can explain that. Wolfgang Kierdorf, the head of Bad Brain, has parts in several companies. One of them is the website of "Mad4Movies".

Look at the bottom of the page, click "Impressum" and see for yourself.

You forgot hsrub (spelled backward: Brush). Could be a coinsidence, but from the looks of it, it probably isn't. Also Sandy (Indy?). Or am I looking too far, here?

Anyway, I do think this is pushing it a little. There's a fine line between being dedicated fans and obsessed.
I hope they change the names. At the moment it sounds like the names of an amateur adventure. Then it would be funny, but for a professional... not so much.

Also, from people-net.com about The Orgastic 4:

So forget about the dog and the rabbit! Here comes the real deal!

On another note, the interface for Orgastic 4 (or what it's called) is hilarious, in a perverted way, but still.

Okay two things about bad-brain:

1- YOU Don't charge your fans to learn about your games. I mean come on we are learning about the games coz we like them and want to buy them. I dunno if that's a stunt to force people to join the club and build more hype or what.

2- Did anyone notice that submitting your info was not secure? I didn't see the small lock at the bottom of my browser that says, I'm sending info over an encrypted channel. That means that since you are giving away your address, any malicious user over the internet can capture it. Anyone else noticed that?

Did you raise a stink like this when you registered for the Adventure Gamers forum? I checked and I didn't see any lock icon indicating that the registration page was encrypted.

Oh dear God, now all of our email addresses are susceptible to floods and floods of goat porn!

I think he's thinking more of home adresses. As far as I know, you don't have to write your home adress to sign up at AG. That's two very different things.

Note: I'm not criticizing Bad Brain's security. I'm just being annoying and pointing out the difference.

Do you give your home address to adventuregamers? I dunno if you like going around giving your address on the internet but I don't
