Monkey Island: the play?!

Jeez, amazing. From the Scumm Bar:

Interested in watching a play of Monkey Island? Chris has let us know that Hammond High School in Columbia, Maryland will be performing The Secret of Monkey Island on April 21st and 29th of 2005:

This is a sure fire not to miss event. I've been putting details about the play on the Monkey Island forum for the past couple of months now. For a long time I wasn't sure if it was going to become a reality, I had to go through a great deal of paperwork in order to get to where I am now. Hope that people can come.
Amazing. Someone had better tape that and upload it.

I wonder how much a ticket to Maryland would cost me?

TigerShard 12-14-2004 11:20 AM

Dude, I so want a video of that!

How cool will that be. Maryland is only 8 hrs from where I live. I really think I'm gonna' go. How do I find out more?

If you go, you better have a video camera, or rent one, or borrow one from a friend, hell, steal one if you have to!

That's pretty awesome. If it's high school kids, that means some kid who's no older than 18 is into old school adventure games (it's great that it's Secret and not Curse) and pushed pretty hard for it, or it could be a teacher who is also awesome. I'd be interested in hearing the story of how this play happened.

Sounds from the post like it's been discussed on the Scumm Bar forums, so possibly check those out.

Yeah, it sounds as though these guys even managed to get official permission from LucasArts, which is pretty unexpectedly awesome. :) Not sure whether I'd want to be caught watching this play myself, but I wish them every success in their endeavour!

The thread that spawned this whole idea is here, by the way.

Just letting you guys know you can view footage of the play over at www.youtube.com or on google videos

Boneho Chane 07-13-2006 02:33 PM

Yeah, I've seen it on youtube. The kid who plays Guybush is really good.

dazsin 07-14-2006 06:54 AM

I heard about this ages ago, apparently Lucasarts only agreed to it as it was for 'educational purposes'.
