I recently reviewed the game. Bottom line: it's not for everyone but certainly worth a try. It demands lots of patience and you probably need to be a hardcore Sci-Fi fan to get the most enjoyment out of it. Here's the full article: http://www.slightly-deranged.com/?page_id=2190

Thanks for the reply, after playing J.U.L.I.A recently it gave me a thirst for some more SF, playing Rhodan at the moment and he reminds me of Dan Dare from my childhood! I am finding it an enjoyable game with a huge amount of nostalgia.
PS I have just read your review, excellent piece and I think this game is one for me. Last edited by Harleyhog; 05-12-2012 at 09:06 AM. |

J.U.L.I.A. was great!
If you approach DarkStar with caution, you should be OK. It's a fine game and a work of love... but it's rough. |

I really liked it. Great music and atmosphere. Its kindv a myst-ish game with lots of lever-button puzzles, where you tinker with things and then explore the ship to see what you changed. But its also got a nice (and also cheesey) story , and lotttts of different ways to die. Theres hours of recorded footage (including a backstory movie that you collect and ends up being around 2 hours long). The game has some buggieness so be sure to make multiple saves. But its a really cool overall experience.
