Irish and British towns in Adventure Games
 

I've been looking for a list of Irish/British village names used in Adventure games (mostly because I'm naming my Stronghold Kingdoms villages after them, but it would be nice to have).

So far I have Lochmarne from Broken Sword and Willow Creek from Black Mirror, but now I'm struggling to find more alternatives.

Does the Irish village/pub/castle you visit in Secret Files: Tunguska have any name? I've been trying to read walkthrough after walkthrough but find no mention of a name.
I don't have any save games for Tunguska at the moment, so I can't load it up and check myself :frusty:

Any other town name/village name you can think of?
Ireland is so often used in AGs there has to be more named Irish villages I'm missing..?

How about all those locales in Barrow Hill and The Lost Crown and stuff like that... Saxton, Cornwall, etc.

I actually started playing through Secret Files again yesterday... I'll keep an eye open whether there's a name for that Irish town or not. Unless someone can think of it here.

There's Bannockburn in Scotland from BS1, Glastonbury from BS3 & also York (a city). Oxford from Gray Matter. :)

There's Plymouth in Devon from Alter Ego and obvious all
Holmes ags..

... and a few more: Weymouth in Darkfall 1, Trewarthen in Darkfall 2 & Dowerton in Darkfall 3. :)

I should have specified that I was looking for made up, or at least very small towns.

Towns like Oxford, York, Cornwall and Saxton are already quite established in Britain ^^

I don't know if there is a real Saxton somewhere in the UK or not, but the one in the Lost Crown is fictional, at least. It is a conglomeration of a few real life English towns, Polperro and Looe, in Cornwall, being the main ones.

And Cornwall is a county, not a town :)

Wikipedia is saying Saxton is real.

While for a list it's nice to know of them all, and I'm very happy for each and every suggestion, thanks! :D I can't use real town/county names in the game as the game is placed on the British Isles and uses real county/town names.

I'm afraid Weymouth is a real town too, on the English south coast :) And very nice it is too; i've been there for my holidays a number of times; although they really need to sort out their road system.

The fictional Saxton used in The Lost Crown is supposedly somewhere in Anglia, not Yorkshire, like the real life one you referenced, but i take your point that you're actually unable, practically, to use any real place name, even if it is a fictional version.

isn't dowerton in dark fall 1 too?i think the abandoned station and hotel were dowerton.

There's also Rothbury from Scratches....the place Blackwood Manor was supposed to be at.

The Saxton in The Lost Crown is very much a fictional place. (I really recommend the game; you'll see why I say that if you play it. ;)) It's not the same place as the link you provided.

If you don't want to use it anyway, the same game also includes Northfield, Ulcomb, the Carrion Woods, Grindle's Maw, and the Fenland Eye as location names.

Rothbury in Northumberland (Scratches) is just down the road from my hometown.

Hehe... I thought about mentioning it but the town has very little relevance to the actual game. It was merely used to put the game in some location.

Though, if I remember well, I think I used that town because there was a real-life story about some eccentric engineer living in a huge mansion. Not sure if it was Rothbury or somewhere else in Northumberland.

Yep Saxton is a bit of a mixed bag:
The name (I believe) is a fictional creation of Jonathan's, possibly without any link to the actual Saxton. Just the sax part being an Anglo-Saxon reference, and ton being a common suffix in english place names.
Saxton in the game is ostensibly located in East Anglia (Norfolk/Suffolk counties). This is an homage to the stories of MR James, which are frequently set in East Anglia. A Warning to the Curious provides much of the basic plot, characters and locations for The Lost Crown.
The actual places photographed for The Lost Crown are located in Cornwall (and one area in Devon), primarily in Polperro with a few locations in Looe and Talland nearby, and the village of Duloe north of Looe.
So: fictional town name, with photographs of Cornwall jammed into an East Anglian setting.

Out of interest: Barrow Hill is a fictional place, but many elements of the locations are homages to the countryside and historical features of Looe and it's surrounding area (particularly Duloe).

P.S. I'd love to write a book about Boakes and Clarks games, particularly their use of real world locations. Are folks interested enough for me to get clearance from Jonathan and Matt?
