not the story the gameplaying the puzzles and the graphics but the atmosphere , the intriguing imagination of the future

All those which can be called Blade Runner's Clones which handled/featured the future with some kind of a dark ,destroyed era/time or at least to say mostly with the unoptimizes themes .. the way stories tend to tell how the world ends, a cataotic earth ,catastrophes with all the misuse of the future inventions and technologies .

sometimes These Adventures can be also pushed into being mellow, even optimistic and sometimes very funny(Like SQ's) way,.. but however they are , just all good for me, to see and live the storyteller imagination form the world s(he) creates; the slangs to psychological touches that appear through dialogs and interactions to all the strangest things that make believe, and above all the just way you take them simply for Granted, to the max.

Surely i am a great fan for all Sci-Fi games, movies and books it is always been my favorite meal !

as also for fantasy game like tWW which they almost have the same elements but not close, i just love it more when the game starts with an acknowledgment that its the year 2099.

Yes, Blade Runner is quite something in terms of atmosphere. It's definitely my no. 1 movie-based game.

1) DreamWeb (even thought its cyberpunk like Blade Runner)

The Dig - in terms of atmosphere this is number 1 for me
Anachronox - I agree with Winterfury, and the game is simply stunning
Dreamweb - raining, dreaming, killing
Pandora Directive - the unique post-apocalyptic/noir world
Gateway 2 - truly original settings and one of the best book adaptations

I also hope to play Omikron and Outcast some day - even the demos were dripping with atmosphere.

1) [Gateway 2: Fantastic puzzles, too.

2) Rama The gameplay sometimes was lacking, but it gave a sense of alien intelligence and vast distance in a way that the Ringworld game didn't.

3) Blade Runner: It did the movie justice, which is amazing.

4) A Mind Forever Voyaging: It was pretty much all atmosphere.

5) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Goofy science fiction parody atmosphere counts!

And a few runners-up:

Trinity: Only loses out because it edges between fantasy and science fiction, so it's not a perfect candidate.

The Dig: I think it sometimes overplayed the "chords of awe and majesty" stuff, but so did Rama. Ah, well. It was great.

Kaged: Very creepy. Very good.

Innocent Until Caught mentioned again, I really should replay those games, I liked them a lot when I was younger.

I don't believe no one mentioned Culpa Innata, I'm not sure if it's my favourite or anything but definitely a great setting there, makes most of the game. They should put CI2 to Kickstarter now or something since it's been frozen who knows how long.

The Journeyman Project 2 and 3.

Out of DOS titles, as said Innocent Until Caught and Guilty, Rex Nebular and even puzzle-light Ringworld: Revenge of the Patriarch are solid additions.

Also, i've been wanting to play this one, which spawned series of a popular fantasy books, but it would seem it's available only in German.

I just realised how few sci-fi adventure games I've played.

But in terms of atmosphere, The Dig wins by default - in ANY genre.

I'll second the mentions of The Dig and Gateway 1 + 2. Some space games just manage to have great atmosphere, and some don't (*cough* Mission Critical *cough).

I also think Space Quest has a great atmosphere, with a very detailed world. Most of the time you're in danger, which I think is what interstellar travel would be like. Space is brutal and harsh.

Beneath a Steel Sky was similar, but it's been a long time since I've played it, I just remember the atmosphere.

I was going to, but then remembered how many themes fit the sci-fi definition. I also loved the utopian world of Culpa and was really hoping for a sequel. Although not sure if the Kickstarter will work for it - the original game didn't gain much popularity.

'Nikopol: Secrets of the immortals' is based on the classic bande dessinee / graphic novel trilogy by Enki Bilal. Whilst not as well realized or presented as in the original comic strip it is nonetheless an interesting and imaginative representation of the future and well worth playing.

Hmmn, I see Blade Runner, Moment of Silence, Rama, The Journeyman Project series, and Noctropolis (a game I liked, but I think I like the title even more than the game itself, and rather wish i could steal it) have all been chosen. That's cool.

I'd like to add Obsidian, RHEM, Sinking Island, and maybe The Longest Journey. And one day, I'll add a couple of games of my own, dammit. Oh! And J.U.L.I.A. and STASIS, of course!

Atmosphere is a big thing for me. I want to feel immersed in the games. My favourite of the sci-fi genre is (of course): Blade Runner. A seminal work that keeps in line with the movie but differentiates it's self enough to be a stand alone success. Others include The Dig, STTNG: A Final Unity, Beneath a steel sky, Anachronox and Starship Titanic.

Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was a fantastic game that gave you control over the USS Enterprise D and all her bridge officers in an excellent story spanning multiple worlds.

It was voiced by all the actors from the show. Patrick Stewart is just amazing.
