Project Kara
David Cage has released his new tech demo at GDC for his new game.
Similar to the one he released before Heavy Rain it is a one woman speaking to the camera with a big emotional change in the middle. http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/firs...new-tech-video It seems to suggest that his new game is Sci-fi based. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ic-dreams-kara From a pure tech point of view it certainly looks a step up from Heavy Rain. It will be interesting to see more of the actual game (Hopefully at E3). |
I saw David Cage's talk today at GDC where this was shown. He heavily emphasized that this is NOT from, and has nothing to do with, the game they're currently working on. (Sadly he didn't give any clues about what they *are* currently working on...) It's just an example of what their new engine can do.
He also said that the tech demo was made a year ago, with version 1 of their new engine. They're now on version 3, which presumably means that whatever they are working on will be farther advanced than the Kara short. Even if it's totally self-contained, the demo is pretty impressive when you consider that the acting is more or less raw (this is what they captured from the live actor, not edited or animated). It also ran directly from a PS3 -- it's not a prerendered movie. I remember how impressive the "Casting" demo was in 2006(?) or whenever it first appeared at E3. Funny how now, by comparison, it looks plastic and weird. This makes me excited for whatever Quantic Dream's next project will be... I hope they reveal some info soon. |
That's what they said about the other demo, and while it's true it had little do do with Heavy Rain, it was certainly in the same spirit.

"The Casting" didn't appear in Heavy Rain, but thematically it did fit in with the final game. It did mention the name of the game though.
I would imagine it's similar with this. The next game might have a Sci-fi setting. |
really cool tech demo.....
i agree with Lucien that it might have a sci fi setting. |
Really liked it, and it was emotional.
No doubt whatever new game they're working on will be PS3 exclusive again... :shifty: |

I'd be surprised if the next game isn't a Blade Runner ripoff.

Less QTE, more GAMEPLAY... That's what I want from QD...

A robot able the develop emotions. How does Cage come up with this stuff?

What you've said sounded really nice, sir. Sadly it didn't justified the generic sci-fi bleh of it all. It's a techdemo, sure, but Cage seems awfully proud of it -- written and directed, wow! --, poor soul. I wonder how many crappy movie/game/graphic novel could we sell with that melifluous phrase.

Though I'm more wowed with the tech demos from Unity, Nvidia, and UE3. Though I understand why he's proud. He didn't make the generic tech demo we come to expect from any company. |

What was so great about it? You know, Wiseau's The Room also took a great number of hours. And I'm not a hater because I find him hilarious, mister, so bigups to the guy.

I really really liked it. If I saw that as an intro to an upcoming game/series, I would be excited for it. Very Ghost In The Shell.
Personally I wanted to add some contrast to the video-but I'm a big fan of the more extremes of colouring. ;) Give me blue and green! |
Fantastic, If that was a game I would of bought it straight after seeing that video. Truly fantastic.

Great looking graphics, especially in HD.
