A for Adventure gone?
Anyone know what happened to the venerable A for Adventure.com website? are they gone with the wind? it appears so but I thought to ask here to see if anyone knew...

Their screenshots were so teeny-tiny you could only guess what's on them.

That would be good old Gravedigger. Haven't seen him around in ages. I didn't know his site was gone, must be fairly recent. It hadn't been updated in years but last time I looked it was still there. He's left gametz too.

I'm more bothered of Adventure Archiv not updating the site for a while... at least the archive is still there

Slydos' Adventure Archiv will be back. At least, that's what I read at the forums at the German site Adventure-Treff.

What a shame... A For Adventure featured some truly rare games. As far as I know, Gravedigger has one of the most exclusive collection of games anywhere in the world.

Now seriously - even when I clicked on (extra tiny) thumbnails only something this size would pop: A For Adventure screenshots were only good for avatars.

I know... just like you lost the original of your avatar.

1. Your pic is smaller than the A-for-adventure ones. 2. Even a notoriously bad pic recognizer (hm, I don't think that's good English, but what the hell) like me can see that your screenshot is from Culpa Innata. 3. Ergo: you didn't have to guess what's on Gravedigger's pics. |

Ok since we're here - A for Adventure was always like a mysterious site to me - once in a while i would stumble on a link, whether on Mobygames or somewhere else, that (supposedly) leads to AfA, but whenever i clicked it the site has never worked for me
Then, i noticed in last two years or so, that when i click the link i got that - "The document has moved here" and i was able to access the site, but never really had a chance to give it a thorough read. Because of THAT, and to settle the screenshots size war once and for all i'm happy to see that the site time machine works - http://web.archive.org/web/201102021...adventure.com/ no pictures it seems but you can see the approximate size |

It has to work. Did you wait a couple of seconds when it says loading the site?
OR, go here - http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/htt...-adventure.com and click on February the 2nd |

Yes, I waited. But I found it now. And yes, let's settle this pic war. Just look at the size of the Ozzie pic, compared to its thumbnail (second to the left).
EDIT: changed pic size. Last edited by Fien; 12-22-2011 at 07:33 AM. |

How can I cheat when the 115% is in plain view. But I have changed it to 100% now.
(You said there weren't any pics... did you wait after clicking the thumbnail? ) The point is, you can clearly see what's in the 100% pic. Last edited by Fien; 12-22-2011 at 07:35 AM. |

Adding more oil (and a huge pile of wood) to the fire:
The proper resolution of a screenshot (for me) is the one from the original game (640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, ... whatever). A For Adventure screenshots were always resized (they were afraid someone would steal their 'precioses'?) and were (very) tiny (for me) - it would be a shame (for me) to use them in a 'guess a screenshot' game. That's all.

I agree that the proper screenshot is always the one with the game resolution - but on the other hand, AfA maybe had server restrictions and difficulties where in such situation smaller size picture is welcomed.
On a different note - i was more devastated to see adventure-eu go a few years back, as well as Adventure music radio on http://planete-aventure.net/ They play some lousy RPG music now Neat! |

So it looks like Gravedigger and his site are gone? that is sad new, thanks for the replies and the lively chat about screen shots

A for Adventure was the first place I discovered some of the more obscure adventure games. The size of the expanded screenshots was not great but adequate to see the pics. However, a couple of the thumbnails, like Amerzone, never got bigger, and that was frustrating.
