Does Heart of China qualify ? A enjoyable good adventure game where the guy rescue the girl and they all lived happily ever after ? :D

What could be more romantic than sneaking into a heavily guarded mansion where the woman of your dreams lives, then following a zombie kidnapper of dreams' women with your own ship and crew, and then, after an epic battle, losing and searching for her again and again for three more sequels and five episodes, because people can't get enough laugh?

The Legend of Lotus Spring released on Valentine's Day in 2000 in North America..
"Embrace the tragic love story of the beautiful woman called Lotus Spring and her forbidden lover, as you are transported on their romantic quest. Based on true events, this classic adventure comes to life as exquisite images, animation and the unfolding story take you on a whimsical journey to the enchanting Garden of Perfect Brightness."

Lula 3D. Best adventure game of all time.

I think The Last Express could be considered romantic, very much among the same lines as Heart Of China. But to my knowledge the one "pure" romantic adventure is certainly Plundered Hearts.

I'm glad other people mentioned TLE. :) It has more than one romantic relationship, by the way. And yes, Lotus Spring, highly romantic. Plundered Hearts is an Infocom text adventure about a heroine on a mission to save her dear "papa". Good writing in pulp fiction style. Here's a sample from the very beginning.

Chestnut hair, tousled by the wind, frames the tanned oval of his face. Lips curving, his eyes rake over your inadequately dressed body, the damp chemise clinging to your legs and heaving bosom, your gleaming hair. You are intensely aware of the strength of his hard seaworn body, of the deep sea blue of his eyes. And then his mouth is on yours, lips parted, demanding, and you arch into his kiss...

Still makes me giggle. :kiss::kiss::kiss:

Now makes me wish there was an X-rated version :D

There was a game 7 days 7 nights and it could be considered as a romance game.

What would a romance game actually be like tho?

IMO what most of you are recommending is just regular games with either romance side-plots or romance character motivation, for example just because Stallone's motivation in 'The Expendables' is to rescue a woman I would hardly count that as a romance movie.

The best way I could think of seperating the two would be like this: (and for anyone who ACTUALLY reads romance novels, please do correct me)

Just a Romantic Adventure/Action/Whatever:Tho it has romantic themes (scenes, character-motivation etc) the focus of the story is about one central conflict (even if that conflict is to save your love).

Actual Romance story: The romance is greater than any one conflict, the largest external conflict is usually just something thrown in towards the end as a final spice to the story,
For example the story could be about a woman who get a job at a radio-station and through-out her first couple of weeks of working there's constant romantic tension between her and her boss (whether they are talking over the water-cooler, partnered up on assignments or meeting up after work) and only at the end of the story does she get kidnapped or whatever, but all that flirting prior to the kidnapping wasn't just set-up to make the kidnapping stronger; it was actual meat of the story!

As for how to make THAT into a adventure-game: I have no idea! would be nice to see someone attempt it tho. :)

The French movie Amelie is a perfect example of how it could work.

How about...

...The Romantic Blue?
It already got the "Romantic" in the title!

And it looks romantic too, doesn't it?

(Never played it...)

"Till Death Do Us Apart"

Aaah, romance.

Ashok 12-07-2011 04:13 PM

I always thought Kings Quest 6 was really romantic.

I'm sure it does. As does Freddy Parkus' quest to woo the lovely Penelope.:)

And, in a strange way, I think the Syberia games are somewhat romantic. Ms Walker is in search of something that will fulfill her life more that what she left behind. And she succeeds. What's more romantic than that?

It's probably not what Almozayaf has in mind, but Ceremony of Innocence is a fascinating multimedia experience. Correspondence between a man and a woman (love! ;)) based on the Nick Bantock books. Beautiful interactive postcards.

MoonBird 12-07-2011 09:19 PM

There's also romantic elements in "Flight Of The Amazon Queen" :)
