Hmmm the only recent first person adventures I can think of are the scary ones like Barrow Hill and Dark Fall and Scratches... but I doubt that's what you're looking for even though they are really good. I can't think of any with a dream world theme but I'm sure someone here will be able to come up with something

I can recommend Darkstar: The Interactive Movie, a sci-fi thriller or "space opera". It's FMV and has a rock-heavy soundtrack, if that's your thing. It's a hidden-objects, first-person adventure.
But like Schneckchen, can't think of anything with a dream world theme, though... |

Maybe
Aura: Fate of the ages and its sequel Sacred Rings? Though Rhem is the closest to Myst.. |

Alida is from 2004, so it's on the older end of your range, but it's very Myst-like. If you can get past the idea of the giant guitar, it's actually a fun and interesting game in my opinion.
You may also like Barrow Hill, the Dark Fall series, Scratches, and Rhiannon. They're very different thematically from Myst but similar in terms of gameplay. |

Fantasy: Alida (2003) - Aura 1+2 (2004/07) - Schizm: Mysterious Journey 1+2 (2001/03) - Outcry (2008) - Riddle of the Sphinx 1+2 (2000/03) - Sentinel: Descendants in Time (2004) - Bioscopia + Chemicus (2001/03) - Crystal Key 2 (2004)
Spooky: Dark Fall series (2002-09) - Rhiannon (2008) - Barrow Hill (2006) - Baron Wittard: Nemesis of Ragnarok (2011) - Scratches (2006). One of my personal favorites is Zork Nemesis. Published in 1996, but GOG.com made it compatible with modern computers. A Quiet Weekend in Capri (2003) and Anacapri: The Dream (2007). Both take place in breathtaking Capri, but are very dreamlike and Mystian. Keepsake (2006) is a 3rd-person fantasy adventure which is in all other aspects Mystlike. |

I will second Zork Nemesis, especially since the game was updated. The best thing in the "Myst genre" ever happened (after Myst and Riven, of course).

It's going to be hard to find a recent dreamworld-type Myst-like game that also has good game music. There have been some good Myst type games suggested, but very few are notable for their music the way the Myst games were. You may have to supply your own music.

that's exactly what i've been asking in this thread, and my feeling is that abstract puzzle games like Professor Layton and many casual games stepped in the place of Mystlike games, but as a consolation - there are many older titles i haven't played, like those on Fien's list and those from 90s as well.
Also, as a glimpse of hope - there're few classic 1st person puzzle games we can expect, like Bracken Tor or J.U.L.I.A. |

I think the Penumbra series is really the modern equivalent of the traditional first person adventure game. They're wonderful, creepy games and definitely worth a look: http://www.penumbragame.com/

Would someone please, please make a 1st person fantasy game? On that topic, even the indie free games don't have much to offer, and what is available is usually suspense or horror. One free game that myst-lovers should like is Amertis. http://www.amertis.org/welcome.html
