Questions... about Gabriel Knight and Others
so, been playing gbk1 via dosbox and been loving it, but i have the second too, and i am very excited about it, can i take a break from gbk 1 and play the 2 right away??
second, are there any more good quality FMV games out there third, i have alpha polaris, is it worth taking a shot at it?? Cheers |
I played GK2 long before GK1 and didn't have any problems understanding the story. But some of the stuff that happens at the end of GK1 will be spoiled for you.

I just finished Gabriel Knight 1 today for the first time playing it on DOSBox and I would say I enjoyed the story and characters in it but I hated the long load times and all the ways you could die. I'm going to start playing Gabriel Knight 2 for the first time next so I guess I would say I think you should just wait.
In terms of other FMV games I just started playing Under a Killing Moon and I love the cheesy film noir 90's acting. It's awesome and I wish I had played it before. |
tex murphy sure looks pretty interesting, again, i wanna star at under a killing moon, but is there any play order

And since when 3½ stars is bad? :D
I've played Martian Memorandum only a little bit, but it didn't look bad. But it's probably right that if you play newer games in the series first it's harder to go back to earlier games. |

I read that you can mess up the dialogue or miss something so that the game becomes unwinnable in the first two. There's nothing I like less. I refuse to play games that have this feature. |

2: I loved all 3 of the FMV Tex Murphy games. Especially cause they have an in-game hint system if you get stuck. I also liked Phantasmagoria 1 (and yes, 2 as well) if you like horror games. I also enjoyed Realms of the Haunting which has some FMV sequences in it but it's almost more of a shooter than an adventure game. All of these can be found on GoG. 3: I haven't played Alpha Polaris but from what I've heard, it's good but pretty short. 4: I love the Secret Files (Tunguska) games but it depends on your taste. My friend finds them pretty boring and never beat them. If you enjoy mystery games, you should like them. And if you like those, I can only strongly recommend Lost Horizon as well, which in my opinion is even better. |
