The second part is a gif file, which means it's limited to 256 colours --- hence the dithering.

Yes... but the mystery is why my .png file was turned into a .gif file. It's still .png on my harddisc, but Imageshack somehow changed it.

because maybe it wasn't set to "Don't resize" but something else and imgshack turned it automatically into gif
