Default Game advice

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but a fanatic visitor to this site.
In the past I played a lot of lucasart games , because I liked the humor, graphic style and atmosphere.

After reading tons of reviews i need your help picking a adventuregame to play.

- I don't like the hidden object games, it's got to be real adventure style
- I don't like zombies, very bloody scenes and violence
- I don't like Myst-like games (abandoned worlds)

- I do like mystery, paranormal, witches, vampires and things like that
- I do like games that take place in the past or other world (so nog cell phones and computers)
- I do like the atmosphere of mysterycasefiles-games

Any tips?

For dark mystery adventures without technology i'd recommend Dracula: Origin, Alter Ego and Lost Crown (well ok this last one has techonology but its a really good game). Since you liked lucasart games so much you'd probably like A Vampyre Story too. It's a funny goth themed game that will keep you entertained for a while
And last but not least you have the quest for glory series. they're old yes, but they're funny, they have great story plots and great characters
(especially quest for glory 4: shadows of darkness).

I'm not sure if Black Mirror 1 has cellphones etc.. but i think not. so you can try that one too

I hope it helped a little bit, i know its hard to find games that meet our expectations but sometimes we just need to give it a go

Have you played 'The Longest Journey' & 'Dreamfall'
also try your hands on 'Broken Sword series' which are all cult classics that
you really should play if you haven't already.

thnx for the replies.

I havent tried Whispered world yet. Will definately take a look at it.

Yes I liked the lucasarts games, but now I'm looking for something different. Also played the broken sword series
Also played a vampyre story. Now I'm killing time with Flight of the amazon queen. (maybe i update my profile with games played

When I played The longest journey I was disappointed because of the gameplay. The athmosphere was very good, but I disliked the puzzels. It felt like clicking through conversations and walking your character from a to b. Like an interactive movie.

Alter ego seems like the kind of game to check out.
Is the new dracula 3 any good?
I was also reading reviews about Barrow Hill and scratches.

I guess I just have to pick one

Dracula 3 is fantastic setting and puzzle wise. You actually need to pay attention to all the clues you collect. I enjoyed it immensely.

Have you played Gabriel Knights? They fit the alley of mystery, paranormal, vampires and things like that, and generally are just great games (and though different from Lucasarts games, have amazing atmospheres and are very innovative (for their time) in puzzle design so you won't have to frustrate with awful puzzles, for the most part). Then again, chances are that if you've played a bit of AGs you've played at least some of them too

Would you look at that ! we finally have a tree headed monkey on the forum!
(Just teasing you! )

Anyway, you should try Lost Horizon. Most of us seams to like it!
There is also Jolly Rover and The Discworld series if you want a few good laughs!

Yes both are really good. I am playing Barrow Hill at the moment and enjoying every minute. Scratches is a classic filled with creepy awesomeness. Both are a must play.

well... you never know when to make a quick get-away

I think i'll begin with Dracula 3 or Lost Horizon, because i can play them on my mac without having to port it.
Next in line would be Scratches to play, because I read a topic on this forum from someone who was quite fanatic about it.

thnx for all your help.

Play Gabriel Knight. I just played it for the first time last week and it's amazing. It has a lot to do with the paranormal, and has a great mystery to solve.

I don;t know why it took me so long to play it, but if you havn't played it you should.
